Alsatian Tokay Pinot Gris VT/SGN's were favorites 20 yrs ago
and Barsac and Sauterne Semillion w/ suitable age. always liked them
Northern Rhone Marsanne/Roussane more so now that I've had a wider sampling. they too seem better with some bottle age.
German and domestic Reisling, though they too are sweet and more ocassional/pairing specific types of wines
I used to stock domestic Chardonnay mostly for guests, but find I enjoy quite a number of producers from Sonoma/RRV/SRH to pop anytime.

As time goes on, (I'm over 65). I found I bought more white and champagne than red wines on release.
There is little issue finding enjoyable white wines over the past 10 years and even more stuff lately that I look forward to drinking and sharing.

This might make an interesting new thread — what varietals do you dislike/not get/generally avoid/consider a viniferous tragedy?

My favorite non-Burgundy white wine regions in order of current preference are:

Germany for Riesling
Bordeaux for Sauternes/Barsac
Alsace for various whites
Alto Adige for various whites
Sancerre for Sauvignon Blanc
Northern Virginia for Sauvignon Blanc
Loire/Muscadet for Melon de Bourgogne
California for Chardonnay

A qualification - except for Sauternes/Barsac and a few German Rieslings and Alsatian whites, the white wines I am buying and drinking are generally priced in the teens and twenties. In addition, there are quite a few (mostly early drinking) red and rose wines priced between $15 and $35
that I like a lot.

My favorite new white wines are Mâconnais, which I know is sort of cheating in a non-Burgundy thread, being French chardonnay made not far from Burgundy…

I had really gone for the white (Chardonnay) from Saint Aubin but now the best ones have gotten quite expensive. For the quality, they were a bargain at $30 to $45 a bottle, now the top ones are $60 to $100.

Since when is Maconnais not in Burgundy? Southern most part of Burgundy but maybe like saying right bank not part of Bordeaux??

We had a Chenin Blanc this week from Savennieres Domaines des Baumard Clos du Papillon that was superb with Capresse Salad. What a match which is an often difficult pairing with wine but the acidity, peachy/melon notes wonderful mouthfeel in combination was a real winner. I'll be on the search for more.

Always a fan of Albarino in the summer and less so for New Zealand Sauv Blanc.

Some pinot gris/blanc from Oregon(Ponzi we can find occasionally) and BC which are hard to find locally but nice summer sippers and pair real well with sushi.

For sure, Chablis and Macon are part of the broader Burgundy region, but for historical and idiosyncratic reasons, both are almost always broken out and sold and reviewed as separate categories.

Was just in MacArthur and they recommended several Saint Aubin white Burgundies that were $45 to $50 - I’ll probably give a few of them a try soon. They did say that the top names in that area a lot more expensive.

I have had a couple Pinot Gris from Oregon that were very good but don’t see them around very often.
