06 Taittinger Comtes for $124.20? Or 07 for $109.65?

Post by Blanquito »

I can get the 2006 Taittinger Comtes for $124.20 or the 2007 for $109.65. Are these a buy at these prices? If so, which one?

2007 is worth 1-3 bottles price wise, if no tax(have not tried the wine yet). But 2006 I have intermittently been able to pick up at sub 110, and even sub 100 here and there over the past year from good sources. Just missed buying some more around 105 this past week. The 2006 should be a great wine, but was far too young and green for me last I tasted in late 2018. I would give it a few more years in bottle.

I think that’s about what I paid for the 2007 on sale in tax-free New Hampshire.

Haven’t tried the 2007 yet but I’ve tasted the 2006 a number of times and its wonderful and one to load up on. And with the upcoming much higher pricing of the 2008, it really makes me wonder if the days of looking at CdC as a value in the high end champagne space are over ...

The 2006 is more classic, and the better wine. But good as is now, it will be even better with ten more years of bottle age. The 2007 is not that far behind in quality , and is ahead of the 2006 In its evolution. Personally, I like and own both.

Agree 2007 for now, 2006 for later based on my tastings.

The 2007 is drinking really well right now. The 2006 is really good, too but could use a little more time. Those are reasonable prices for both.

Thanks for the feedback.

ITNOS, I opened the 07 Taittinger Comtes and the 08 Laurent Perrier Brut today to celebrate Labor Day. Both are wonderful champagnes... but I actually prefer the Laurent Perrier. It could be a vintage signature, but the LP is so crisp and chalky and makes the Comtes almost seem a bit too weighty. I do think the Comtes will develop more complexity in the long run than the LP, but at $50 less per bottle, I think I buy more of the LP.

Good buy on the LP 08, I have been looking for good prices for it. What did you pay? Any good sources?

I got the 08 Laurent Perrier for $59, which seems very competitive per WineSearcherPro. There is a place in buffalo which has it for $52 (WineTransit.com) or $58.75 at the Saratoga Wine Exchange, These are very good prices for a terrific vintage bubbly from a great year.

Perfect, thanks Patrick. Those must have just popped up recently. I actually have an open order with Saratoga for some Gaston Chiquet BDB d'ay 2008 and larmandier longitude NV(Both great wines if you get a chance to try). Will have to fill it out with some of the LP 08.
