F. Magnien Chambolle "Borniques" 2002

Post by William P »

Oh what a disappointment this was. The oak driven wine was a sad excuse for a Premier Cru. First taste was of oak, medium body and medium concentration. It was tight so after a glass or so, I saved 1/2 a bottle for the next day. The wine did smooth out a little but the oak so overwhelmed the fruit that it was impossible to say if there ever will be an integration.

I'll hold my last bottle for another 10 years to see, but this was a giant bust.

Bill, what is the relationship, if any, between "F. Magnien" and "M. Magnien"? Are the wines completely different in style?

Stuart,
Michael is Frederick's father. As I understand, Fredrick does all the winemaking for Domaine Michael Magnien and for the Fredrick Magnien. Thus the only difference is the Domain Michael are from grapes owned by Michael where as the Fredrick bottles are sourced grapes.

I have had some very good wines from both labels. This unfortunately was not one of them. Generally these are done in a more modern style.
