My last wine purchase ever... Oh the irony.
My last wine purchase today, 4 bottles each of 2016 Potensac, La Dame de Montrose, and, the irony, Grand Puy Lacoste.
It has been a good run! Over 900 bottles in my cellar, more than enough.

JimHow posting about his last wine purchase ever is like Susan Collins posting about how she will vote against Trump.
Re: My last wine purchase ever... Oh the irony.
Seriously Jim I know the feeling. I’m guessing 900 bottles is less than a 10 year supply.

Don’t worry Jim Biden is still going to win big and take the Senate with him.
On Nov 4th that odious creep and his ersatz family will be history and heading to prison.
Hold your nerve
This is very different to 2016
Turnout will be 65% the highest since 2008
Undecideds are fewer, and since Trump’s disgraceful irresponsibility with his Covid infection pushes them to Biden
This is a referendum on Trump
The majority of Americans being decent now recognise him as the fraud that he is
Suburban women
Seniors
Young voters
For every shy Trump voters there are two other anti Trump voters not being picked up
I think Joe will win in a landslide
40% of Americans have voted already
Joe’s gaffe on fossil fuels will hurt him but only by tenths of a per cent
But he still won the debate
If/when Trump loses what are we drinking?

Health reasons as much as anything else, David.
Had to work hard this summer/fall to get my blood work numbers back in line.
I’ve lost a good chunk of the blimpdom I descended into last winter.
Cholesterol, blood pressure, liver enzymes, Tylenol addiction, work stress, scary case of bronchitis last winter, morphine-treated stomach problems the winter before that, it’s all about moderation and a more balanced, holistic lifestyle!

As I am sure you are aware, our profession (my former profession) has more than a few "health" side effects.

Yeah, no kidding, Bill, it definitely takes a toll.
One more hard year of trials in 2021 and then I'll plan on cruising down the home stretch.

900 bottles... that’s like a two year supply at Stefan and Lucie’s, right?
I have almost 2500 bottles and that’s like a 11-12 year supply in my household if we keep plowing through at the same rate (which is unlikely I guess as I am about to start my 50s)

Kidding aside... Health first, glad to hear you are prioritizing that and making progress Jim.
Retirement can bring a big reduction in stress - some you may not even be aware of - as long as you’ve got something else to engage your mind. I doubt you’ll have any issues there given your creative bent.

You looked good when we saw you last month, Jim. I hope you can keep your stress level down.
This year I doubt that we will go through even 400 bottles, Patrick. With Lucy not drinking at all some days and only a glass on many days and us having few social activities, I just don't see it.
Well, unless we are able to spend a few weeks with stefanJr, T, and families for holidays later this year.

Good points all around. I’ve been opening less wine this year as well, COVID and the election makes me yearn more for a dram of scotch truth be told.
Stay healthy everyone!

We are going through more bottles during the pandemic. But I think it is largely because we are not going out for meals and ordering wine at restaurants. It all comes out of the cellar now.

Re: My last wine purchase ever... Oh the irony.
Yeah, for me at least the key to losing weight was cutting down on the vino.
I’ve lost almost 30 pounds and have another 10 to go to hit my goal.
Some of my blood work numbers were out of whack, not crazy, but a little high here, a little low there, coupled with the usual blood pressure and cholesterol numbers I was definitely headed in the wrong direction. Plus, I finally kicked this nasty addiction to Tylenol, never a good thing by itself but especially the case, obviously, when mixing with alcohol.
So... 900 bottles to last me another 18 years!

Jim, I hear you on being pro-active and starting to make some life changes regarding your health. It's good to see that cutting back on the vino made an impact on your weight. I need to drop at least 50 pounds over the next couple of years and if wine can help in that meeting that goal so be it.
I've spent less than half of what I have on average the last 5 years. I have about 1100 bottles and I've been consuming an average of 150 to 200 bottles a year. Over the coming years I see my consumption only decreasing. My kids only have a passing interest in wine so I'm under no inclination to leave them any kind of significant cellar. I plan to drop off the Ridge Monte Bello list before the next futures offering and will drop Montelena Estate next year. While I don't intend of buying any major purchases moving forward I'll always keep my eyes open for an occasional older bottle and and short term drinkers.

Re: My last wine purchase ever... Oh the irony.
Amen, Gerry. It has been an interesting silver lining of the pandemic that my court schedule has lessened, thus freeing up more time to exercise, which has helped put me in better balance. I have a big year ahead with these very big murder trials, I really need to be in peak form, both mentally and physically.
Re: My last wine purchase ever... Oh the irony.
Personnally, working at home is having a bad effect on my mental. Want it or not, i'm not a big fan of my house, always likes to be elsewhere instead (outside, friends, familly, trip or vineyards!). At least, i went moose hunting, that helped me, but i can't really see when things will really change, so have a tough time at the moment. I start running, to stay healthy, but i hate it.
And it makes me down that i can't go visit my good friend Jim this fall, to enjoy a 2016 Chateau Potensac in his company, while relaxing.
And my Vikings are playing like shit.
Nic

Ha I should have exempted “cellar savers “ like the 2017 Felsina but that would be opening a can of worms.
