BWE Zoom tasting, Friday, March 12th, 7pm eastern US time.

Post by JimHow »

Michael P actually suggested this time and date.
It actually works well for me, as I will be coming out of a couple days of Zoom hearings in my Alaska case.
That's 4pm California time, 6pm Teyxsass time, 7pm eastern US time, and I believe midnight London time (?).

Theme: Uncork a special Bordeaux in celebration of BWE month!

Danny
A few hours later and I’d be in. Given early morning maybe Right bank wine with a fruit platter and brioche sounds good.
However It would be Sat AM here so Wendy won’t want to be awakened early!

On the calendar if we're in town. Lots of back and forth to Rehoboth as our renovation finally nears completion.

I'll be there. I'll likely open something fun, depending on whether I end up having an offline tasting the next evening. Probably 85 Beychevelle, 98 VCC, or 86 Rausan Segla. What is everyone else thinking about opening?

I went to my storage today and dredged up a bottle of 2001 VCC if anyone else - Mark, Joel? - want to do some VCC assessing next Friday?

I will as long as I don't have an offline tasting that upcoming Saturday, I'll update as soon as I know midweek. Will wait on Mark's answer too

Happy to play by ear about this one if you don't mind. I just don't want to force down a whole bottle if I'll be at a tasting the next day. If I don't have one, then I'm happy to open the VCC early that even and track it all through the zoom.

If we do wait for spring, or do another then. I should have an 83 and 89 to try. Excited for these as well

I was a big fan of this at the BWE 20th last year. Marcus brought it and I think decanted it for around an hour before serving. It could probably use 2 hours.

We will try to join in the fun. Unless there is a definite theme, probably go with older Bordeaux (more than 30 years old) to be determined.

If even a subset of people are going with the Vieux Chateau Certan theme, I have a 2004 VCC I could open. Would be my second BWE Zoom tasting with a 2004 VCC :D

I am on a Pomerol kick lately and have Conseillante and Clos l'Eglise available in the basement too, along with a 1989 Ducru Beaucaillou and some beautiful Burgundies.

Joel, what I don't open tomorrow night I will share with you this weekend...

I'll likely open a half bottle of 1985 Beychevelle, hopefully its still alive and kicking.

Going to save my consumption for drinking some fine Bordeaux with Marcus on Saturday.

I have 10 of these 375's, if it's good I can bring one.

I have 1986 Ducru standing up with 1995 Pichon Lalande in reserve - better than 50% chance the Ducru is corked knowing my luck with this wine. Whichever I go with I hope I haven’t finished it before midnight - looking forward to seeing ya’all.

I plan to join. Since drinking solo, I decided I would just check in on the 2003 Ch Gruaud Larose St Julien.
I checked the recent notes from CT, and looked promising. Rather than ponder over oldies and goodies in my stash, I figure I'll wait till I can share them with Arv, Bill and the Sac wine crewe. Ironically, I did have a 95 Durcu, (spec's WOTY) and an 86 Pich. I briefly considered opening one of them to juxatpose w/ comteflaneur but only if Bill or Arv come over to help me taste it.

Since Ian is bringing the Ducru I am thinking that I will maybe open my 1989 Ducru and save the VCC for my evening with Joel this weekend, as he has expressed the desire to taste it.

Ian,
If you are lucky you have one that was recently recorked at the chateau. This was a limited release from about two years ago. The wines are excellent, and should be labeled as recorked.

Hmmm, my 89 does not have any indication it was recorked on the label. Does that mean it definitely wasn't? It does have an excellent fill for a 30 year hold wine, into the neck.

Unfortunately Mark it is not one of those, which I have seen sporting the new bright orange as opposed to Sandy yellow label at Berry’s. My case was purchased in the mid-90s. It has a low hit rate!

I will say hello with a glass of 2016 Chateau Larose-Trintaudon. Me too I want to wait to be with other winelovers before opening a top Bordeaux.

Or maybe i should open a top Bordeaux tonight, as covid can still kill me as i'm not vaccinated...

I've put my name in a couple of places trying to get on the standby list for vax!

Hopefully we can all meet soon.

I'm waffling between a split of an 03 Medoc for tonight, or a 99/00 St Em.
