BWE France 2022?

Post by JimHow »

I was thinking about Alfred Tesseron tonight.
Should we just shoot for scheduling a trip to Bordeaux about a year from now, in April or May 2022?
Should we rule out the Fall of this year?

Might not need to rule it out yet if the vaccine production is really pumping up. There might be some value to getting out there earlier before things get nuts in the spring with everyone and their mother trying to travel after being cooped up for almost 2 years at that point.

Vaccine rollout is much slower in France right now. The borders are still closed (I can't even fly there and I am a citizen). I think things will still be pretty restrictive even in the fall unless something shifts in France quickly.

Yeah, plus my trial schedule is going to be nuts through the end of the year with three murder cases, including Alaska, which is set for January-February 2022. I think late spring 2022 is going to be best for me. Let’s go in May 2022.

Too much uncertainty to plan for a fall trip. With enough notice May 2022 is fine for us.

Thats rough, do you know if they are planning to open the borders to vaccinated people in the near future? I would think that they would do this for the summer.

I'm sure you guys are right, I'm just chomping at the bit to get out to wine country and trying not to settle for Napa or Oregon :) Next May sounds much more realistic.

Yeah, I’m hoping we can do something in the DC area in the fall. May 2022 is more realistic for France.

Somewhere in the USA for the fall should be possible. By then probably everyone in the USA will have had a chance to be vaccinated. I hope it will be the same for others.

Spring of 22 is a realistic aim.

And what I suggest we do is pretty much replicate the same schedule we had for March 2020.

I think we will get high hit rates - in terms of visit requests - that way for less spade work.

I was thinking of Alfred today too, when I took delivery of six bottles of his 2000, which showed so wonderfully in 2015 at the chateau.

I saw a poll yesterday that showed nearly half of Republicans in Michigan (where I am) were not planning to get a vaccine. I guess they will be working to create herd immunity for the rest of us.

I hope so too, that seems much more realistic. Hopefully our Canadian friends will be allowed out of confinement for that!

I'm headed to the Willamette in early May. After last year, I need some fun.

May is usually a terrible time because of all the public holiday.

*However* both the 1st of May 2022 (French Labor Day) and the 8th of May 2022 (VE Day), fall on a Sunday, which is great.

The 26th of May 2022 (Ascencion Day), however, falls on a Thursday, and may people will make a 4-day weekend of it.

The next publich holiday after that is the 6th of June (Whit Mnoday / lundi de Pentecôte).

All the best,
Alex R.

I hope so too Joel. Hard to figure out, but if it is like now, like everyone out of the country and back need to do a quarantine, this would make it hard.

I guess it depends on vaccine efficiency with the different variants.

I cross my fingers.

I’d love to come if possible, but I’m almost always unavailable to travel from approximately March 30 through June 10. I know that’s a pretty prime window to travel, so I understand if BWE needs to go then and I’ll live vicariously through the posts and photos.

Look on the bright side, it should make it easier for those who want the shot to get it.

I just don't think I can do March if my Alaska case goes to trial.
Well we still have time to think about it.

Folks
I hope that the lockdowns, travel restrictions and the like are over soon yet the virus isn’t going to be resolved soon even with vaccinations.
Pity that so many seem to be vaccine deniers as this means that it will take longer to get on top of the virus. Yes the world really is flat.....
I am not sure what the situation will be like however at that time so I hope we don’t face the last minute cancellation of March last year.
Cheers
Mark
