Opened Tonight — ‘95 Ducru and ‘95 Lynch Bages

Post by Hm$(still) »

Friends brought these 2 over tonight.

The Ducru was medium body, smooth, with a long finish, not at all tannic. Not sure it’s going to get much better. 91 pts.

The Lynch was tighter, more tannic, and while I could appreciate that there was fruit underneath, I think it will need more time to come around to be really enjoyable. 88 pts now with some upside.

And, it could be nothing more than personal taste as I generally like wines from St. Julian more than those from Paulliac.

I've never liked the 1995 Lynch Bages. I still have six of them. Not enough fruit, nothing like close vintages like 1996.

I’m surprised the Ducru B didn’t shower better. It is some years since I last drank it but I really liked it. Medium body and well balanced with cedar and dark fruits. Unfortunately lest most behind in my old country.

Agree with Claudius2 - in my experience, 1995 Ducru has been outstanding, one of my favorite 1995s.

I can’t wait for the 1995 horizontals we will surely have in 2025 when these hit 30 years. If they ain’t great then, they’ll never be (and some came to this conclusion when these were 15, 20 and now 25 years old).
