I'm estimating that I'll know the results of my murder trial by around Sept 24th, a few days before the BWE convention.
If I win, I'm going to need to drink a lot of wine.
If I lose, I'm going to need to drink a lot of wine.

Paula and I are only Friday and Saturday this time.
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
Finally an update confirming details with Charlie Palmer for Saturday 10/2. There was another group with first dibs on the Alcove Room which required some finagling. Fortunately we made a good impression on the CP staff in our past visits. Nicole remembered us and found another space for the other group. I signed the contract and put down a $2500 deposit today.
Festivities begin at 6:00 PM with a Champagne reception, followed by a seated dinner at 7:15 PM in the Alcove room.
The address for Charlie Palmer Steak is 101 Constitution Ave NW. Although that's the official address, you'll see on Google Maps that it's really closer to the intersection of 1st St NW and Louisiana Ave. An easy 2-3 block from the Hyatt Regency at 400 New Jersey Ave NW.
All-in costs will be $240/person. This includes:
- an hour-long reception with passed hors-d'oeuvre
- 3-course dinner (choice of 2 salads, steak or salmon entree, choice of 2 desserts)
- unlimited corkage
- 4 decent Bordeaux stems (19 oz) per person
- tax and tip
I'll need checks to confirm attendance by September 14. Drop me an email at d b g at comcast dot net. I'll send you my address to mail a check.
In addition, I will require names and contact information for everyone attending, including BWEers guests. I will contact each guest/couple individually to confirm that they have been fully vaccinated. Yes, I know that fully vaccinated people can be asymptomatic spreaders but their viral load will be lower than those of the unvaccinated. This is purely a safety issue as I know there will be one or more high-risk people attending. I am truly sorry if anyone who wants to attend is unable to be vaccinated.
I will update the first post in this thread with this information.

I'll send my address to those whose emails I have. If you don't hear from me tonight, email me at dbg at comcast dot net.
(Not sure why I bothered spelling that out - seems like every spammer and scammer already have my email.)
And apologies if you get 2 or 3 emails from me - I'm trying all of your addressed that I have. Just respond from your preferred address and I'll update my files.

Jacques asked if I can receive payments via Zelle or Venmo. I do have my mobile number linked to Zelle and can send you that info by email.

Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
By the way, I support DavidG on his requirement that everyone be vaccinated.
I believe you still have time to be fully vaccinated, if you are not already, certainly with the J&J.
I'm not preaching to anyone on this, but David has taken the initiative to organize the Charlie Palmer event, it is his party, and he can require vaccination if he wants to.
I'm sure this is not going to be a big issue.
The Charlie Palmer events are the lifeblood of BWE.
We have done numerous events there, it seems like Home.
I can't wait!

Thanks, David. Really glad we can be back at Charlie Palmer - it's sort of a BWE institution.
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
Thanks, David. CP has always done a fine job for us and we are happy that you were able to get our regular room. The check for Lucie and me is in our mailbox to be picked up today.

I may need to add another guest if that's ok?

Sure, Jay, there's room.
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
I will be there, will see about a guest. I’ll confirm by email and send deposit to you David — I am vexed. Looking forward to seeing everyone again!
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
LOL vexed and vaxxed!
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
A few people have asked if I need to see their vax cards. No, we’re all old friends. Just need to know.
That said, I would advise bringing the cards or pictures of them. And masks. Given the changing recommendations and mandates from airlines, CDC, and the DC government, it’s best to be prepared. I’m not aware of any DC requirement to show proof of vaccination for large gatherings (occasionally defined as 25 or 50, it varies widely), but who knows if that will change. DC does currently require masking on public transit and indoors - obviously not while eating so we’re fine. I’ll post an update if I hear of any significant changes to the DC regulations.

I've had a few requests for PayPal, so I've added that as an option. Account is my email address.

I had a $100,000 settlement check take literally three weeks to be delivered from PA to ME.
It was pretty pathetic. We are a failed state.

So sad .
Due to pandemic concerns and since we are high risk we decided to drop out.
Y’all have a wonderful time as I know you will.
Hope to see you all next time.

Sorry to hear that, Stuart. Stay safe!
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
Did we ever decide on a theme for Saturday or is it a "whatever Bordeaux you feel like bringing" soirée?
Best

Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
I think no major theme was set, Jacques. We should have a reasonable representation from 2001, yes? I am thinking about bringing a couple.
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
There was a thread about this somewhere, but I think it kind of got opened up to all of the good vintages betweeen 1981-2001. With Particular interest in 85 vs 86, 89 vs 90, 95 vs 96, 00 vs 01
I'm definitely planning on some 86's and 89's. Probably some BWE favorites, since who better to drink them with?
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - attendance and details
As i'm not attending, i would suggest for Saturday many 1991-1992-1993 (in magnum), with a head to head between 2003 and 2013.
On Friday night, just repeat Chicago 01 "infamous Zin night". (Extra pours for Jim).
I always want the best for BWEers. Please don't wait for me, do it!

You will be missed. Who will I talk about Conseillante and Beaujolais with?
I for one am still hoping that you decide to sell your bottle of 2018 Rousseau and come to DC on the profits!

Sorry to hear that Stu but completely understand. We'll miss you.
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - drtails, final count
We're a couple of days past September 14 and it looks like our final count for Saturday is 31.
I never heard from Marcus, his guests, or Joel's 2nd and 3rd guests.
I'll be giving Charlie Palmer an updated count today.

Sorry, I forgot to update this. I've been out of town, looks those other 2 guests won't be able to make it this time. Thanks for organizing.
Re: BWE DC 2021: October 2nd Saturday dinner - details, final count
David, et al. I may have to change my plans and stay in Paris longer than expected, which means bowing out of the convention. So at this point I am at risk. I should know tomorrow and will let you know where things stand.
