A very short note here.
After a corked bottle of 2005 Poujeaux (Arghhhh), I opened and decanted a 2005 Marquis d’Alesme Becker. While not as catastrophic as the Poujeaux, this was pretty much of a letdown.
The color showed more bricking than I expected and, while the nose was “sweet” and definitely Médoc, it lacked personality and charm, especially for a Margaux, not to mention from such a good vintage. But where this wine really fell down was on the palate, which showed marked acidity and an overall lack of graciousness.
I’ve had better lluck with Marquis d’Alesme in recent vintages (barrel samples) and would be interested to hear from other BWEers about their experience with this third growth.
Best regards,
Alex

I can hardly remember trying this estate.

Yeah, I’ve almost never come across it and Parker panned it when he even bothered to write about it, calling it perhaps the worst 3rd growth. I have a half of the 05 I think, I might look for it.
