BWE SF dinner - Sat 13 Nov 2021

Post by Michael-P »

UPDATING Periodically (last 11/10)

Guest list currently:

1+2: Michael-P and Nalan
3+4: SF-Ed and Lisa
5+6: Tim and Guest
7+8: Arv and Marco
9+10: William-P and Linda
11+12: Chris and Werner
13+14: CabFan and Victoria

Location: Piperade, 1015 Battery St in SF. We've had multiple BWE events at Piperade before and they've always done a good job.

Time: 6PM, Saturday November 13th

Logistics - we will have the outside patio to ourselves at one large table. There will be heaters, but still dress for dining outside. They will provide OK but not great stems (for folks like JoelD who are picky about these things). We can go up to 14 people max, so if Werner and Chris can join us and no one drops out, we'll be up to our max number.

We will have a menu (coming soon) that will be "pick one from these four options" type for starter, main course, and dessert that we don't need to pre-order.

Cost will be about $140 each all in. That includes an estimate for the $10 per bottle corkage fee. So don’t bring extra bottles to open unless you think they are worth the extra corkage.

No need to pay in advance, but it’s too many people to pay by credit cards, so please bring cash for the restaurant or a check to SF Ed or Zelle the funds to SF Ed.

Bring your proof of vax (card or photo of card on phone) because it is required for all restaurants in San Francisco.

Thanks to SF-Ed+Lisa for searching for, organizing and booking the venue.

I would certainly try to make it. November is unusually open.

Arv do you and Jen want to do a dinner at one of the local establishments. It's been a long time, before my operation and covid. Yikes.

By the way, as of today I am officially a resident of San Francisco, CA! Looking forward to lots of offlines (and figuring a way to ship some wine from France to SF)!

Arv, Bill, et . al.,
I would car pool over from Sac to SF if things settle out and we can meet up. My preference would be for Nov 20th, as the 13th is my wife's birthday.
Keep me posted.

Thanks - Gene

Gene: Sorry but the 20th did not work for us. Merrick Dowson's memorial service and an evening concert.

I am going to try to make this, sounds great. I need to get out to Napa and handle a few things anyways. I'll work out the rest of the details and confirm as soon as possible.

We are working on getting the restaurant set. Many "usual suspects" aren't open, especially on Saturday night. I would expect we would have a direction on the restaurant situation by the end of the week.

No problem. I have stacked my dance card for the next 2 months so this is a good break. I hope to join many of you at some future date. Sorry to read about aiw Merrick Dowson’s covid death last year. Enjoy the concert as sf is opening up and welcoming visitors

I'm still in! Looking forward to it.

Was exchanging messages with Chris, he and Werner might be up for it as well.

Note, SF restaurants require a vaccination confirmation to be presented at the restaurant, so make sure you have yours with you if you are coming from out of town!

Cheers,
Tim

I can't make it to this dinner but I'm going to be heading to Alaska in early 2022 and I'm really hoping I can make a stop in SF at some point.

We've now come up our plan for the BWE SF dinner on 11/13.

We will have a menu that will be "pick one from these four options" type for starter, main course, and dessert that we don't need to pre-order.

Cost will be about $140 each all in. No need to pay in advance, but please bring either check, cash, or be ready to Zelle money to me. This is too many people to attempt to split checks.

Let me know if you have other logistics questions.

I'm assuming you mean November 13?

Also, how is Piperade checking vax status? been vaxxed but places here are not doing that level of enforcement.

For my employer I had to send in a QR code

Thanks Arv - fixed it.

We're dining outside, so they might not check, but I'd still bring your vaccination card or have a picture of it on your phone. Both are acceptable forms of vaccination proof for SF dining.

Thanks for your efforts, Ed.

Lucie and I hope to make it, but it is dependent on several things, including my recovery. Of course, as soon as I know I'll let you know.

Do we want a theme? Cali vs. Bordeaux. Vintage specific Bordeaux. Right Bank. Left Bank. Central Bank.

Any thoughts?

Max is 14. Tim got in a day before with his request, so I'd say he gets priority. If anyone drops, Arv gets next slot.

MichaelP - since you started the thread, could you please update the list (and fix Werner & Chris' name on it)?

Werner: Apologies. Not sure why but I must have been thinking about our recent new hire (at a start up with 25 employees) when I wrote "Walter". Nalan was remembering the last time we saw you guys with your baby daughter and I said she's probably in college already! Looking forward to catching up.

That's a bummer Bill. Hopefully that just logistics and you are feeling well.

Definitely let us know next time you are visiting in Berkeley!

Arv - looks like your +1 is a go if you want the spot.

Yes, absolutely, I will be there for sure. Victoria will keep the date open just in case we can include her. Also, after the first of the year, we can certainly host another gathering at our house. Thanks for handling all the arrangements and I'm super excited to see everyone again.

Classy wines, for classy guys?

Image

I'm thinking of bringing a magnum of 2001 Grand Puy Lacoste, and a (non imported) obscurity picked up from France, from that shop Timmc recommended to me some years ago.

A big group is a nice excuse to bring out the bigger bottles!
