Rolland the genius?

I just bought a bottle of the 2012 Michel Rolland Bordeaux. Sometimes, there are opportunities in life that you shouldn't miss!

On CT, a user reviewed it two times, for a rating of... 94.5 points! This is a higher CT rating than the last 39 vintages of Chateau Magdelaine! In CT, only 5 vintages of Lafite over 20, between 1981 and 2000, are rated equal or higher! Always on CT, the 2012 Michel Rolland has a better rating than 2012 VCC, 2012 Trotanoy or even 2012 Bon Pasteur!

Did i found the best ever qpr merlot? I'm not sure i will open the bottle, as it might ramp up in value in the next weeks/months/years. And there are still many bottles left in my local liquorstore...

I think i might have found the next BWE WOTY!

I'm ready for my introduction on the Winebersekers board with that wine.

I apology to everyone here for what i wrote in the first post, and Mr Rolland himself for what i write in this one. By the way, i guess that user called MARK1NPT Is probably Mr Rolland himself, for rating that wine 94 and 95 points...

I opened the bottle, pour a glass, and... a wreck. Bitter chocolate and unseductive oak. No fruit, no complexity, nothing. Where is the merlot? If a young person, want to start drinking Bordeaux, and start with that one and consider it is representative of Bordeaux, no way he'll buy another Bordeaux. Even MC couldn't drink it. That wine is like a Chimpmunks movie... or a wine worse than the "renewed inclusive and comprehensive 2021 Talibans" (roll eyes).

Opened a 2020 Les Marcellins Beaujolais from Christophe Pacalet, that is clearly not a great wine, but miles ahead of the Bordeaux. Very light, not that much nose, a bit of soapy flowers, mouth is better with still flowers, purple fruits and granitic minerals. What Beaujolais should have finally.

At the end, all i can say is that i apology for a second time to all BWEers, and also especially to Magdelaine, VCC, Trotanoy and Bon Pasteur.

Ok, your post had me laughing out loud.
But you should consider also apologizing to the "renewed inclusive and comprehensive 2021 Talibans" :D :D :D

Obviously your attention was on the score and not on the tasting note. Mark did mention that it needed air, which you apparently ignored.

Ok, i'll give it a try back tonight. The bottle is still 95 % full.

Tried back tonight. I must be honest and say the wine improved. Went from a 68 to a 74-75 rating. The backup 2019 Chateau Thivin Les Sept Vignes saved the day, supported by Laurent Perrier Champagne and 2018 La Chablisienne Chablis La Sereine.

For the 2012 MR Bordeaux, i'll get my money back. The only best thing with our monopoly, get it back!

Guys
I have been something of an opponent of the now common 100 point scale for some time, and I wonder if a generic wine gets 95 or so points, then how many points do you give to the very top wines?

It is probable that points are affected by price, and in Australia, some of the best known critics openly admit to being relatively more generous with points when reviewing a low priced wine. In short, 95 points (whatever) is relatively meaningless except within price points. No wonder the 2016 Wynns Coonawarra Cab Sav got 99 points, which I wrote about last year some time.

Maybe the Rolland wine was rated as a generic wine or dare I say, a cooking wine?

I realize Nicklass is in a different market than most of us, but I can't see the logic in buying any of the branded blended AOC when estate bottlings can be had for almost no premium relatively. Out here Clarendelle or comparable is $12-$14, while cru bourgeoise are $15-20. Costco will usually have some estate Bordeaux AOC for the $10 spot too.

Lol Nic...good stuff

Just now reading this and I'm shocked Orl Bobby didn't go off on an anti-rolland Mr. Smith goes to Washington filibuster.

Saying that, I must post my fav. Orl Bobby Rolland quote:
"I cannnot escape the ravages of this man."
