DC '21 Friday

Post by JoelD »

**UPDATED**

Start time 6pm. End time approximately 10pm, although we can stay later if needed.

1st hour or so will be socializing and toasting, although will we need more champagne after the BD's hotel reception? :D

I'll have dinner start around 7.

As I noted before, I moved recently so i'm unsure of mail delivery and I don't really want to rely on hard checks/snail mail. If this is the only option for you, please PM me and i'll figure it out. Last option will be cash at the event but I'd also really rather not deal with that if it can be helped.

Below is the list of everyone that is confirmed, although I believe there are a few that aren't on here. I will mark everyone as paid as they come in. If you could please send me an email or PM here when you pay and what method so I can keep an eye out. Thanks and looking forward to a great weekend with everyone!

I am currently working with the chef/events coordinator on the menu for Bistro Bis. They will host us in the back half of the restaurant instead of the hotel convention room.

Planning on four entrees of Filet, Lamb, Chicken, Salmon. Unless someone needs a vegetarian dish? The only real option for that is a pasta. Please let me know if so.

There will be 3 app options and 2 desert options as well. Cost per person should be between 140-170. As soon as I finalize I'll update everyone.

Thanks for organizing, Joel. We don't have the option of our own separate room?
Will that give us an opportunity to socialize among ourselves?

From my understanding, they will basically block off the back half of the restaurant for us.

The other option is to have the hotel host it, and bistro bis would cater it. However that would severely limit our options on food. 1 app, 3 entrees and 1 desert.

The coordinator and chef came up with this option instead to accommodate a better menu.

Bistro Cacao (where we did BWE Saturday night last year) is also an option. And has a great menu. I have just heard that they have gone downhill a bit during covid and everyone seems to love/rave about Bistro Bis.

Let me know what you and everyone else thinks on all of this and I can adjust.

My point of view is that what matters the most is the ability for all of us to talk with each other and share wine.

When I have booked venues for BWE gatherings, I've focused on the ability for us to have a complete room/area, fixed corkage, and then if the food is decent, that's a bonus. If we don't have a complete room, it makes it very difficult for us to be fluid/move around/share wine.

Thanks again for organizing this, Joel.

Based on past conventions, this head count seems low to me? Usually the Friday is pretty close to as big a crowd as the Saturday.

Who are we missing? A quick scan of the Saturday "confirmed attendees" suggests you might assume the following will be in for the Friday night event as well: Stuart & Kathy, Chris B & Marjorie, Marcus (and guests?).

I agree, Ed. That was the original plan, I think the back of the restaurant will accommodate that as well but I can swing through and check out everything in person later this week before confirming.

Our backup restaurant may be a better option as they have a large room for us.

I'll update.

Thanks Patrick, I assumed we weren't all the way there. I told them 30 is a likely number. Which I think is the closest guess, based on everything.

Happy to help, Jim. You guys are all great and I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone I already know and a few that I haven't met yet.

I have already mentally set aside all my wines that I believe are perfectly Blanquito'd, or Howquito'd!

No worries at all, MP. Looking forward to seeing you and Nalan again.

I have the date held at bistro bis and i'm going to stop by there this week to get a look at the options for the back of the restaurant vs the event room at the hotel. I estimate total cost between 140-170 per person.

Update, Bistro Bis is finalized. We the bottom back section of the restaurant to ourselves. I checked it out the other day and it should work well.

Start time 6pm, end time 10pm ish. (We can stay later if needed)

There will be 3 app options, 4 entree options and 2 desert options. I will post the list soon as I will need everyone's entree orders 1 week prior to the event.

Just crunching the last numbers but should be about $150 a person (100+tax+service charge). If there is any extra, I will give it as a tip.

I'll send out an email as well. I would highly prefer an electronic payment for this if at all possible as I just moved recently and I'm not entirely sure of my mail delivery.

Payment preference in this order:
1. Venmo
2. Zelle
3. Paypal

If anyone absolutely needs to do hard checks/snail mail please let me know directly. I may prefer to have it brought to the event. Cash at event would be other option.

I will update with all of my payment details once I have exact amount. Waiting to hear back from the coordinator. Hopefully by monday. Then I will update in this post and at the top of the thread.

The whole area is ours but i'll make sure they know that the first hour or so is for toasting/socializing/setting up before settling in for dinner. They're definitely aware and completely cool with the fact that we will be there a while and we don't need tons of checking on by the wait staff.

FYI, I was going to use your email address from above to Zelle, but it's claiming you aren't registered under that email at least, so I tried your cell and that worked/it found you.

Thanks again, Joel. We Venmo'd $300.

For entrees, Gail will have the chicken and I'd like the lamb. Do you need selections for the other courses?

Ciao,

Tom
