TN: Gaffeliere 1982 St. Emillon

Post by Winesense »

Ruby red color with orange rim. Significant signs of maturity, but still brilliant. Destinctive nose, manely red cherries. Soft resolved tanins, velvety, but not tired yet. Stilly good sweet fruit, red cherries and strawberry. Classic claret, trinks very nicely now and will hold up an other 5 years at least. Rating: 90

I remember the '82 La Gaffeliere being fiercely tannic early on, but I have not seen it in a long time. I'm pleased to see it emerge from the chrysalis so well.

"5 years at least" sounds very conservative to me. Or did you drop a leading one or trailing zero?

Hi Stefan,

When I look at your Note of the 1970 Gaffeliere I am tempted to agree the 1982 will last longer than 5 years. There seems to be some similarities. ;) Honestly I can not tell how much longer it will hold up. It seems prefectly ready to trink right now. When I consider it I payed aproximately 25$ per bottle, we can be glad that "You know who" did not taste this wine in his 1982 retasting.
