New Rieussec packaging...

Post by AlexR »

I saw this in a shop window and did a double take.

Not to my taste, how about yours?

Hideous.

Looks like grocery store plonk from a 1.5.

Could only be improved with a jug handle.

Agree it’s an appeal to a younger generation.

Like I said, put a jug handle in it, looks like a Growler. Hipsters will swoon.

And an article I read implied a bigger price, also.

I think I read that it was offered EP at $120 per, although that would have been to their prior group of clients, who they have basically 'fired'. Perhaps they will find some traction with new buyers, but it seems like it might take time, and much of that $120 will get burnt up paying for cocktail girls to proffer up Rieussec shots in Aspen/SoHo/Ibiza hot spots.

Without the price increase, I was out on the bottle shape.

Alex, you might have the only cellar where these might fit, as you could just stand them on the floor! :-)

I just saw a 2018 Soliel d'Arch. It was almost the same design but more squat. It was positively decanteresque.

Designed by Kraftwerk?

Bottle doesn't matter, it is what is inside that matter.

I suggest to change the bottle of Lafite Rothschild too, just put a big LA on it. LA for:

LA bouteille.
LA référence de Pauillac
LA différence vs les autre 1er
LAfite Rothschild

For 2018, they did change the Lafite label. They drew in a small hot air balloon with CL on it to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Rothschilds owning the winery and CL is Roman numerals for 150, also CL stands for Chateau Lafite.

btw, Garagiste is selling the current vintage of Rieussec in halves for $20. I suppose Rimmerman hasn't been briefed on the new 'positioning' doctrine by Saskia.

a split held from release, lovely texture and complexity

I reconnected with the old packaging yesterday, after a vexatious day trying to figure out house electrical issues. 2003 Rieussec [Sauternes] remains lovely, with glaceed apricots flavors and thick honey viscosity. It might remind people of the 1990. The color is beautifully bronze/brass. Solid A.

Mmmm that looks tasty.
Boy, those 2003 Sauternes ended up holding up well.
I think there was early concern that they may have been over the top.

When a baby, 2003 Rieussec was as boisterous as a Kraken TBA. Now it is a voluptuous beauty.

stefan,

Good to hear!

I was actually in Bordeaux in September 2003, spending a few days at Ch. Nairac and experiencing the harvest.

I always believed in this vintage and laughed loudly at some comments like "too sweet, cloying and no acidity."

There are beauties now!
