Or we can brag about wines we didn’t buy, starting a new thread entitled What Wine Didn’t You Buy Recently?

I’ll go first: I didn’t buy that bottle of the 96 La Tache last month at K&L auction.
Seeing as I have utterly failed resisting any of my recent purchasing desires up until today, I don’t have much to contribute here.

Unless long past glories count, in which case I can regale you with tales of all the cult mailing lists I dropped.

I think the 89 Lynch Bages should qualify for an automatic, life-time BD buying-freeze exemption, no?

My last purchase was 12/3 (a case of ‘95 and '00 BAMA, Alfert's fault), so I'm just 3 hours shy of 3 days now.

Well I bid on 3 bottles of Jim’s favourite 1989 Lynch Bages last week at auction.
I think I’m suffering non-buyers remorse.
Oh well.

The 89 Lynch qualifies for an immediate, lifetime buying-freeze papal dispensation/BD exemption, so your buying freeze status is intact! So ruled.

We had the last Bacchus auction of 2021 yesterday. One bright spark (a close acquaintance and tasting pal) asked others what ‘successes’ they had had. Successes is one way of putting it. I was hoping to win just one lot, but alarmingly ended up with four; and catastrophically ended up spending eight times more than I had intended.

The carnage began after I foolishly put in an absentee bid for two bottles of 1988 Lafite, which I was confident would not be successful because my reading of the wine market was that it is getting frothy and very silly, what with all this funny money sloshing around; but it is one of my favourite vintages of my favourite wine (trust me it is so good), which perhaps explains the method in my recklessness. So straight off the bat I was up to £1000 (£500 for each). Yikes. :o

Later, somehow, my finger slipped and the upshot was that I ended up with 12 bottles of Clos Fratin 1980 Vosne Romanee (£320) because in my opinion 1980 is perhaps the most under-rated red burgundy vintage. I have no empirical or scientific evidence to back up this hunch. This illustrates the extent and advanced severity of my ailment. Then, in my delirium, my finger slipped once again and I ended up with a sixpack 2015 Levet Cote-Rotie Amesthyste (£240) …. how could I say no? such a keen price…The lot I was aiming for I won too: six 2011 Brovia Barolo (£260). Next year I will only be selling.

Lol, Ian! That's a lot for a man on a freeze. At least you got some great deals! This merits a big 'very well done, indeed'.

I just put in a bid on a case of Niellon*, I am currently the high bidder but I am confident that I will get outbid in the end.

*It seems that Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet has become BWE's 'house' white burg.

2008 Piper Rare-115
2014 La Mish-135

Right at the time when it becomes incredibly expensive and difficult to find. Maybe we should give Niellon the La Lagune treatment and call it undrinkable swill

Its just coupon/cashback stacking nonsense, can only do 1 bottle at a time. Deal's are gone for now but may come back, but if you want a tutorial sometime let me know.

Joel's tutorial has cost me alot of money, but also has saved me alot of money?? :? Ask for guidance at your own risk! Coupons and cashback can net anywhere from 20-50 percent off and there really aren't that many hoops to jump through. Just have to keep an eye on some cashback percentages and coupon codes. Definitely has made WDC Stewardship worth it for me this year.

Total failure. Just looked at what is being held in the UK for me. It is frightening.
But then, I have no problem using spare cash to buy. My best money market is $4 per thousand, and I think we are going to see some inflation in the near future. Why not convert cash to wine. Especially when you are being offered some old vintages of VCC and Pichon Lalande.

2008 Krug-280
Only like a handful of bottles for sale in the world for like $750+, so that’s quite a score. You’d think it was some micro cuvée in Burgundy. Can’t figure out if all the Christmas holiday bottles are still on some boat.
