2008 DdC

Post by Chateau Vin »

Uncorked for 2 hrs without decanting, and had it over the course of 1.5 hrs...

WOW, It had it all-- alcohol, back-end tannins, med body and a bit of glossy fruit...

That's about it...OK I am exaggerating, but seriously, I thought it is just one dimensional without much character...I was underwhelmed. Not really bad, but I expected a bit more...

Thanks for your notes.

At age 14, this is no longer a baby, so it would be normal to be sceptical about a "wait and see" rebuttal.

However, I have usually had good luck with Domaine de Chevalier (both red and white).

I will be interested to read feedback from other forumites.

That sounds pretty decent to me. I think with this estate, as well as other select Graves, there should be some notation of rouge/blanc.

Just had the 2000. I tend to dismiss young DDC, but have to confess I enjoyed this bottle. It has a little bit of Graves complexity, and a pleasant fruit forward character. I just traded a bottle from the 2005, and will see if his impressions are the same and what they did in a big vintage.

I’ve never had a great DdC, and I went to a vertical where they had wines from the 70s through 2010 direct from the Chateau. Just one of those producers that can make good wines but not great ones. Like Lagrange, although a bit better for my tastes. 2008 was a challenging vintage too, so that takes it a further tick down.

One of the finest tastings we ever did was DDC 1953-1989. We could not believe the level of complexity and the beauty of the wines. I have had the 1953 twice, and both times it showed better than more exalted wines, the La Mission 1953 and the 1959 Lafite.
