TN 1995 Duhart Milon (and Léoville Poyferré)

Post by jal »

With some chops and green beans; perfect fill, dark inky color, nose a little subdued but still a little earth and tobacco, on the palate it is correct with some ok fruit but frankly, there's not much there there, a bit thin and lightweight with a short finish. Should have been better. 89, still we finished the bottle.

I still have a couple of bottles of this. Not an encouraging or surprising note.

I can't say I am a fan of 1995. I've been drinking them for 20+ years and not only have most of them not come around, they also don't have the stuffing for the long haul. Disappointing.

Never particularly liked most 1995s, particularly the Medoc.

There are many good 1995 right bank wines.

I enjoyed a Calon Segur a few months back. The Duhart has been disappointing for many years and has not improved much.

I went to a friend's house for dinner yesterday and by complete coincidence, he opened a 1995 Léoville Poyferré. A lot better than the Duhart, purple bright color, much more expressive nose, fruit is vibrant and tasty, elegant but still lacking in depth and complexity with an ok finish. Ready to drink, this one I would rate 91.

I'm the same way, although Pichon Lalande with all the merlot is impressive

The 1995 Haut Brion is superb. I have a few 1995s for verticals, but no more than a single bottle. But I do have four bottles of HB from six, and it can be drunk now, early maturity.

The 1995 Haut-Brion was the wotn at our 1995 horizontal in Nov 2019, which Mr Vino attended. We got lucky that night. Virtually all the wines showed well. The La Mish was not far behind its slightly more illustrious sibling.
