2015 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Volte Toscana IGT

We enjoyed this wine last night at LaVelle's in Fairbanks, a really expressive nose of violets, mouth-puckering acidity but backed up by ripe fruit, it smoothed out over the course of the evening, with large quantities of sediment in the end. A voluptuous purple Italian beast. 91 points.

nice. i have had this bottling a few times but generally didn't get enthused. i remember once being at some NYC italian restaurant a lifetime ago, and there was an (empty) imperial of some vintage of this in their dining room, all signed by various Yankees circa turn of the century. A number of teammates had gone there to celebrate after some win and thrown back a large format, and signed it for the venue. (i was not there when said pinstripers were drinking it)

Yeah I don’t think it was any sort of high end effort but it was quite tasty and enjoyable in the restaurant setting.

You are getting a pretty diverse wine experience up in the Great North. I have not had that wine, but some I know think it's decent quality for the price.
