My latest auction winnings got delivered today.

Coincidentally my gross purchases of £2990 exactly matched by gross sales of £2990. That was not meant to happen. Because after all the fees etc I had to shell out over £670. The Chaves were my undoing. I had both a few weeks ago and they are fabulous wines. But the whole purpose of the exercise was to come out in the black. But…cash is trash…we have similarly high inflation in Blighty…no point in raising cash is there?

I just opened a bottle of 2000 Glatenay Volnay 1er Cru Brouillards and it is marvellous old school burgundy, a point too.

Saratoga has free shipping on a case, for selected wines which included the following at not-bad prices, so I picked up a few more 2016s:

2016 Prieure Lichine x 4 @ $53
2016 La Lagune x 4 @ $54
2016 Talbot x 4 @ $70

You can never have too many 2016s, I say, that is just a flat out spectacular vintage.

Yup, that’s kind of where I am too. And 2016 looks like a vintage I’ll be around long enough to enjoy.

I totally agree and it's my last vintage of Bordeaux that I'm cellaring. I am buying later vintages for early consumption and to be fluent in future Bordeaux talk.

Well done David on all those 2016.

La Lagune is quite good in that vintage. Looking to taste it back at 15 yo.

4 2015 Arterberry Maresh Vineyard PN @ $50.

I liked Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir when Mark Vlossak made one years ago, but I have never tried Arterberry's.

Pulchritudinous!

This particular OWC is pristine.

I was really impressed by the 2015 by half we had when we - Alex, Patrick and I - visited the estate in October, even though it said 15% abv. The wine only had 40% new oak and it was brimming with limestone terroir expression leaving a strong impression of an intellectual wine, which was not manipulated in the cellar.

I wanted to try a cool vintage of this estate and try one to see how it compares to an older vintage of Magdelaine. (Any old excuse)

Very well done indeed Comte Flaneur. What a damned shame we didn't get out there a couple years ago. This half case business is new to my cellar. I told my brother Tom and sister in law Barbara this weekend that I will leave my Moutons to them when I expire, but they will have to drink one upon my death before they can sell the rest.

Yes Jim what a shame we were thwarted by the scourge of Covid. That visit was such a good one because as we had arranged for March 2020 we did the double act with La Fleur Petrus but alas not the jewel in the crown Trotanoy. Our hostess was marvellous and impassioned.

Guys
When is a return to Bordeaux likely to be possible?
We now have war in the Ukraine to deal with and COVID has hardly passed us by.
The locals here by the way are getting rather concerned about the potential involvement of China which would be rather ugly,

A 171 Lanbo wine refrigerator. It holds about as many bottles as the Le Cache Credenza I bought last fall but costs 1/3 as much. I'll put it in the garage of our Eugene condo.

I now have enough storage space in Oregon for more wine!

Stefan’s law: total wine accumulated by a Johnsonian body per unit time is directly proportional to the fourth power of the Johnsonian body’s storage space.

The constant of proportionality σ, called the Stefan–Boltzmann constant or Stefan's constant, is non-fundamental in the sense that it derives from other known constants of nature. The value of the constant is

6045D651-D2F5-414B-B307-A63ECD243973.png

where k is the Boltzmann constant, h is Planck's constant, and c is the speed of light in a vacuum. Thus at 100 storage slots the wine flux density is 5.67 bottles/m2, at 1000 storage slots, 56,700 bottles/m2, etc.

Yes Ch, Larose Trintuadon 2016 is amazing! Super QPR.
The 2019s will be very interesting to try. High hopes and many of them should be lower in EtOH compared to 2018. Will report when I try them.
