Opened a bottle of the 1990 Pichon Baron over the weekend.
It was an absolutely beautiful bottle - nose of cassis and a touch of smoke and leather. On the palate, fine, ripe tannins - mostly resolved, with black and red fruits. Beautiful balance and a long finish that made me wish it were a bottomless bottle, because I could have drunk that wine for days. Clearly the best bottle I’ve had so far in’22.

Re: 1990 Pichon Baron
I had this wine a few times in the last couple of years as I took my some of my remaining nine bottles to various off lines. I think I only have one left. Consistently magnificent I agree, and quite different to the 1989 - sexier and more opulent

Well, we agree on some things! Are you feeling well? Should I send a Cali Chard to you to recalibrate your tasting?
Re: 1990 Pichon Baron
I agree that the 1990 Château Pichon Longueville Baron is a great wine, more exotic, opulent, and riper than the 1989. It is fun to see how the vintge marked these two wines in a very different way. Same for Lynch Bages, Léoville Las Cases or Léoville Barton as well.
