lol...
oooh can't wait....
It's like my supposed claims that I'm retiring from the practice of law.
I'm supposedly done buying new Bordeaux vintages.

This is a polite way to prepare the consummers for high prices!

At least it’s Château management and not a critic saying it.

Interesting report.
I don’t know whether I want to jump for joy or get on my knees and sob.

While the part about claiming another great vintage is a bit tiring, having been in BDX recently, I had the opportunity to taste some samples of 2022. It is almost for sure, my type of vintage. It will not be liked by some, but I think, I will love it. With all the complimentary notes you have been posting on ripe wines and vintages, you might like it as well. Quantities are low, but the world economy is not looking good, so who knows what prices will be? We will find out in May/June and perhaps July.

An interesting take. And Jeff is right, even if the wines are the same quality and type as 1947, I will have no problem passing. I have had a fair number of 1947 (a close friend is from the vintage), and only Canon and Lafite were enjoyable. They were an exception in those days, and I am not partial to the kirschy overripe low acid wines from that year.

I am not sure you can make a comparison to 47 as everything is so different today. But it is not a vintage for you. Save your money. But my guess, and it is a guess, it could be a stunning year for me!Musigny 151 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:21 pm An interesting take. Musigny 151,
You forgot Cheval Blanc 1947.
Jeff,
Let's see how the wines are after the malo is finished.
I am a bit skeptical when some winemakers compare 2022 to 2011. The latter vintage isn't the one I value highly.

So Boooooring Jeff.
Enjoy 22. I'm sure you will.

Malo was finished in the wines I tasted, but I realize that is far too small of a sample basis, and far too early to know much of anything, except there is potential.greatbxfreak wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:17 pm Musigny 151,

Musigny 151,
I don't believe you have already tasted samples of 2022 vintage.

If you’re going to accuse people of lying, Izak, at least keep the names straight.
Jeff was the one who said he has tasted a few 2022s. I have no reason to doubt him. No idea why you would accuse him of lying. Not cool.

I promise you I did not forget Cheval 1947. I have one correct bottle out of three I have tried, and for it was a fully mature version of many Port style wines of today. I have never particularly liked overripe flavors, and I found the Cheval ponderous, simple and weighty. There were others who liked the wine, but in the tasting, the greatest wines of the twentieth century, the Cheval finished towards the bottom with not a single first or second place vote. A Vandermuelen bottling tasted and smelled of skunk spray, and a third bottle, again chateau bottle, could well have been a fake, as it was totally non descript. We are in the process of doing a Cheval tasting going back to 1945, and we passed on a bottle of 1947 Cheval with a good provenance at £16,500.greatbxfreak wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:17 pm Musigny 151,

I am surprised to hear that malo was completed in November. Usually finishes in February, and one year, half the wines had barely been done when we arrived for en primeur in early April. Any idea what is going on?Jeff Leve wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 3:52 amMalo was finished in the wines I tasted, but I realize that is far too small of a sample basis, and far too early to know much of anything, except there is potential.greatbxfreak wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 10:17 pm Musigny 151,

That was only for a few wines and only for some grapes/parcels. 2022 is one of the earliest harvests in history.Musigny 151 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 2:14 pmI am surprised to hear that malo was completed in November. Musigny 151,
My apologies for the wrong post concerning 2022 samples after malo.
I mistakenly took you for Jeff, but it doesn't help to see a post with three or four notifications embedded in one.
Jeff,
I still don't understand malo happening so quick after alcoholic fermentation. Harvest 2022 was only one month early in many cases.
DavidG,
Relax. I did not accuse anyone of lying. Just wondering malo coming immediately after alcoholic fermentation. Read please Musigny 151's comment.

I’m sorry Izak, I misinterpreted your expression of wonder as an accusation.
Re: 2022 Ch. Angelus…’one of the greatest vintages’ like 1947
Out of curiosity, is Angelus somewhat less distributed into the US, vs the other classic first growths?
It seems like - for a wine of its quality/stature/marketing - that the other wines of comparable price are more available, and just generally 'seen' more.
Is it a production issue?

Per Jeff Leve’s site:
On average, there are 8,500 cases of Chateau Angelus produced every vintage.

Also from Jeff’s site, to compare:
Figeac is 10,000 cases.
Canon is 6,000
Pavie is 8,000
