Exactly my point lol
So what have you bought lately?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I sold like 300 bottles!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I cannot disclose my tax situation due to an ongoing audit.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
Plus, I lost money since I charged myself exorbitant rates to care for and properly store the wine. And I wrote off the cost of the cellar construction against any appreciation of said wine.
Really, the IRS owes me money!

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Careful, the Democrats have ordered like 320 million tax investigators. I got audited once by these mother fuckers, not long after I went through my divorce 20 years ago. I’m like the most honest taxpayer since Samuel “don’t call me Sam” Adams. After they tormented me for like three years they acknowledged, oh well, I did nothing wrong. Yeah great. Who do I get to sue? Oh, right…. They just better hope I don’t run for senate when Angus eventually retires, I’m going to join my brethren across the aisle and shut that out of control criminal agency down.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
That sucks, BD. BUT, the IRS was going after Trump’s enemies, maybe it was an intimidation campaign ti keep you from challenging Collins or LePage?
Re: So what have you bought lately?
All kidding aside, the wine I unloaded was stuff I either didn’t like/want anymore (maybe 2/3rds of what I sold), wines that I still like but that I had way too much of (what I refer to ask the future-jckba-phenomenon), and a few wines I no longer deemed worthy of what the market would pay.
The hardest time selling wine is the first time.
Eventually/soon I’ll run out of wine in categories 1 and 2, and then I’ll really have to go on a buying freeze, for reals.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Ha no I was tormented by a local auditor who eventually got fired because she was, literally, insane. Like literally. I saw her in criminal court a few years later because she was charged criminally for abusing her like 87 cats. I'm not making this shit up.
It was an experience that colored my world view on American government, the extent to which there are extra-constitutional things going on beyond the normal rules of the game. It helped teach me to never assume who the good guys are.

BWE, a super community for people who like discussing about Bordeaux wines, buy Bordeaux wines, sell Bordeaux wines, but don't drink wine anymore! Alleluia baby!
Re: So what have you bought lately?
IRS lost our 2019 return… 3 times. An e-file they confirmed receiving and two subsequent hard copies they signed for.
Still waiting for our 2020 refund. The IRS really does owe us money.
Somehow I think all those new agents will be too busy chasing PayPal $600-aires to find our 2019 return or send our 2020 refund.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Consumption by year definitely showing a downward trend:
2019 - 149
2020 - 147
2021 - 101
2022 - 72 so far, will probably finish the year at 75-80.
I really can’t drink as much as I used to before I start to feel it. Used to be 12-16 oz, now it’s more like 8-10 oz. Obviously varies by wine’s ABV %, but this is not due to higher-alcohol wines. Peggy drinks less too, maybe 4 oz if she has any at all. A bottle often lasts 3 days now. Used to be 1 or 2.
It’s not something to mock. Getting schnockered on a regular basis isn’t healthy. And it’s quite possible to enjoy wine without over-indulging, despite the smaller pours.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Same here, my consumption is way down. When I go on these fasts I feel a lot better. It also keeps the weight down, I find intermittent fasting and limiting alcohol consumption work for me.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
I’m at 118 bottles consumed so far in 2022.
I definitely can’t hold my wine like I used to, I feel it much faster and not in a good way.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
The US Treasury only sent us a some of the Advance Tax Credit checks that we were supposed to get....yet we were 1099G'd for all of them. My CPA said we could file with what we received, rather than that what the UST thinks we were sent, but that it would almost certainly trigger a paper audit. So we did, and a few months later, got the nastygram letter demanding more monies. Strangely, the state didn't object to our #'s the way the Feds did. The CPA basically advised it would take more energy/expense fighting this than just paying and moving, so we did, but it sucks.DavidG wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 12:52 pm IRS lost our 2019 return… 3 times. Paying tax on money never even received is just so galling. And the whole ATC concept was impractical to begin with.
Re: So what have you bought lately?
You guys as well as my children are convincing me that I need some younger friends, especially since my latest biopsy suggests that I might live another 10+ years.
Yesterday I bought locally in Eugene:
1 Argyle Brut 30
2 Chapuy Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc 52.50
2 Clouet Grand Reserve 50
1 2020 Goodfellow Chardonnay
1 2005 Pichon Baron 195
1 2008 La Grande Dame 180
1 2016 Maillart Jolivettes 83
2 Shea Cellars Shea 46
1 Melllen Meyer Brut Natur 38
All actually 10% less with mixed case discount. This was my first purchase for quite a while as I don't buy anything for Texas except for what I intend to drink in the near term and I have over ten cases of wine waiting to be shipped to me in Oregon when I come back in December.

2x 2014 Cos - 120 each
2x 2016 d'Issan - 37 each
Couldn't pass up some more wine.com coupons with 30 percent cashback from capital one. Almost picked up a 2016 Margaux.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
The latest wine.com coupons and some reasonable Black Friday prices at Grand Vin Wine Merchants, plus inspiration from the BD’s account of his 2016 collection enabled another foray in my 2016 backfill crusade.
4 x 2016 Giscours
4 x 2016 Haut Bailly
4 x 2016 Rauzan Segla
4 x 2016 Palmer
And though not 2016 Bordeaux:
4 x 2016 Raffault Picasses
2 x 2010 Palmer

Re: So what have you bought lately?
At auction yesterday I bought
A six pack of Ch Palmer 2019 for £950
One bottle of Ch Grillet 1983 for £85 (low ullage)
Three bottles of Jaboulet HLC 1996 for £200
Two bottles of Jaboulet HLC 1997 for £140
Six bottles of Sorrel Hermitage (Blanc) Recoules 2002 for £350
I tried to sell nine bottles each of Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero 2011 and Barges Cote Rotie Duplessy 2011 without success. If I had sold then it would have covered the outlay above. Selling wine is easier said than done. Buying wine is easier done than said.

Trying to get a raise to $158 per hour, will that get me a 2019 Pichon Lalande?
https://www.sunjournal.com/2022/11/27/s ... ral-maine/
I bought six bottles of the 2019 St. Innocent Freedom Hill Chardonnay that WilliamP turned me onto, I'm trying to stock up on white wine for lobster on the back deck next summer. Rumor has it Stefan and Lucie are making their first visit to Maine since the inception of BWE late next summer, maybe we can turn it into a bigger BWE weekend!

I also bought six bottles of the 2019 for Tday. Drank two and was not disappoint. I think it will go well with summer lobster. Enjoy.

So Black Friday and Cyber Monday came and went and I tried to exhibit some self restraint this year:

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Picked up some Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals and got a mix of...
For my consumption rate, I think I am pretty much done buying, but will buy few bottles here and there based on future vintages, and also will just buy a bottle here and there of some trophy wines going forward just for the experience of it (ofcourse not Petrus and the like, as I am priced out of those anyway.. )
2 bottles of 2019 Foillard Morgon Cote du Puy @34.99
1 bottle of 2015 Elio Sandri Perno Reserva @59.99
1 bottle of 2014 Branaire Ducru @39.99
1 bottle of 2019 L'If @175 (Trophy bottle if you consider that as so )

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Managed to snag a few (x4) 2014 Ch. Palmer in the low-$200ish per bottle on Black Friday deal, and actually splashed for a lot of whites (Hubert Lamy) in the sub $100/btl category; some of these blind stand toe to toe with Premier Cru / Grand Cru wines imho

I thought I bought 6 bottles of 2016 Ch. Siran online at a local retailer, but when I went to pick them up, it was the S de Siran.
At $40 each I was happy to buy more '16 Siran, but I'm not paying that for their second wine.

I don’t know how 19 Siran compares with 16 Siran, but one of my friends in Boston area just sent a picture of 19 Siran at their local Costco for $26.99. FWIW, Sucker rated the 19 Siran 94 points...

Either the NH liquor store isn’t updating their website inventory or they don’t have hardly any 2019s. I emailed Zachys about the status of my futures orders, crickets so far.

When picking up my pre-ordered 2014 Latour and 2019 Beychevelle from Bassins, I grabbed a 2019 Felletig CM Les Plantes off the shelf. I do enjoy shopping in a store vs over the web. Also when picking up my huge Panzer German order in Delaware this week, I grabbed a 2017 Rieussec from the Total Wine up there.

I too quite enjoy in store shopping, the browsing of wines from different regions but the problem with it is, I often end up falling victim to buying things that I didn’t know I wanted so it is a slippery slope.barsacpinci wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 11:12 am When picking up my pre-ordered 2014 Latour and 2019 Beychevelle from Bassins, I grabbed a 2019 Felletig CM Les Plantes off the shelf. NH still has next to nothing for 19' Bordeaux. Just to save some frustration I'm sending an email to the state to ask for an eta.
