Burgers and Bordeaux
We enjoyed grilled burgers and a lovely Bordeaux. The 2002 Leoville Poyferre was absolutely delicious. Opened and poured into glassware with no decanting. Operatic nose burst from the glass and all I can say is this is classic freakin' Bordeaux. Loved it. Perfect and in the window. A 5 star effort.

Love the thread title and loved the 2002 Poyferre, alas mine are long gone.

I still have a magnum of 2002 LP - I guess I should open it soon. My memory is that it is a very good (not great wine) that is very drinkable and very fruity for a 2002.

Agree that 02 is in a good place right now. We just had 02 Leoville Barton and it was perfect. As RPCV said, As Poyferré, Barton was a « classic freakin' Bordeaux »

I love 02 and I'm partial to Leoville Poyferre as well. Really enjoyed both the 03 and 04 in the recent years. Sounds like a perfect night

I have bottles of '03 Poyferre that were good, but in many the cooked rotten fruit spoils the wine.
Even the good bottles are no match for the '00 or '02.

I've only had one bottle. So I'll defer. But this one was red fruited and lovely. Not modern or extracted or cooked like how I thought it might be based on the vintage. Below are my notes from June 2021.
This showed Very well. I expected a bigger, more new world style to pair with a big ribeye for father's day. However, this wine came out much lighter on its feet and very fresh. Just a touch of creamy notes, similar to a 2005 Bouchard Caillerets that wowed me recently. Although it didn't pair quite as well with the ribeye as I had hoped, I was quite happy with the wine itself. Probably the best bottle of Poyferre that i've had lately.
