I think Ian is dividing them up in accordance with his diabolical scheme to sell six and then drink three for free

But I have to say I question Ian’s prediction of substantial price appreciation for the 2020. Not sure how it is in the UK but in the U.S you can still get the 2016 Montrose for $200 and the 2020 is about $185. They seem like stylistically similar wines and probably similar in terms of quality (the 2016 might even be better), and the 2016 hasn’t zoomed up since release and is only a few bucks more than the newest release.

Of course Bordeaux often take 10-20 years for a sharp delta in price but in general Montrose seems to have enough supply that it doesn’t increase too much. Still remember getting the 2000 for $170 two years ago. The 2009-2010, especially the 2009, are a bit of a recent exception I guess

About 250-270

Second most expensive Montrose of the last 30 years after the 2009 ($300+). Of course the 89-90 are extremely expensive

Guys
I just gotta stop bidding at auctions as I end up with more wines that I really don’t need.
Oh well.
Last auction was Sunday, and I bought:

2016 Beausejour DL St Emilion (6 OWC)
2015 Castagnier Clos de La Roche (6)
2014 Faiveley NSG 1er Cru Porets St Georges (12)
2020 Rapet Corton (6 OWC)
2019 Lignier Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru (12)
2019 Philippe Livera GC En Champs (12) Never heard of them but I was the only bidder. Cheapish so I bit.

I have not bought any Faiveley wines for many years so I hope that they meet expectations.
I bought tonnes of them in the 1990s (1985-90 vintages) but the style seems to have changed.

Last year I expanded my storage facility by upgrading one hold to a much bigger space. With these wines, plus the Christmas special offers I bought (Bordeaux, Burgundy, Spain etc) I will have no more space and the two wine fridges are overloaded. I know, first world problem at a time of war in Ukraine, conflict in many nations, earthquake disasters in Turkey/Syria and New Zealand and cyclones and storms wrecking numerous regions, I can only be thankful I’m in a tiny country which is stable and prosperous.

It's been a crazy month & summer. Flash floodings followed by a cyclone that have both wreaked havoc.

Mark - Philippe Livera is a trad producer in Gevrey - I liked his wines v much - from the 2012 vintage - but you rarely seem them around

Nothing earth shattering but happened upon some 2019 Ch Pontet Canet at Costco today. I haven't really been a big fan since last buying the 2005 vintage but for $90/btl I felt compelled to pick up a couple.

That's awful, after the last hurricanes in Florida, we had a big scare and friends of ours have sustained tens of thousands of $$ of damage. The ridiculous cold weather in the Northeast of the US two weeks ago that Jim talked about. These "one in hundred years" events seem to be more and more frequent nowadays.

Seriously load up the truck at that price - the wine is really nice. Wish I could get it at that price.

Ianjaig
The adverse events across the world are seriously scary.
We’ve been bombarded with endless storms here and back in my old country (Australia) there are floods and storms all over the place though worst in Victoria. Next we will have more destructive bushfires there.

Hope you are okay and that NZ recovers fast. I sell recall the Southern Island earthquakes several years ago. It led to rugby being cancelled so it must have been bad….

Australia isn’t on a fault line though there were serious earthquakes in the Newcastle area some years ago.

Ian (Comte Flaneur)
Never heard of Livera - the stock comes from Amsterdam and the auctioneers recommended them.
Your comment does encourage me as I had no idea what to expect.

I just nabbed one of these myself recently after having a great experience with some 80's verdelho. Have you had this before? I think it's the oldest wine I've ever bought.

Nice pick Racer.

I had the 2015 Baron de Brane twice and think it is just a fabulous second wine.

Not really a purchase, but I just swapped 3 bottles of a very overdue prearrival order, 2019 Marc Colin St-Aubin La Chatenière, for:
4 x 2014 Roederer Brut Champagne
2 x 2020 Louis Michel Chablis Vaulorent

They gave me double credit for the screw up on the prearrivals, and praise for the Roederer (95 William Kelly, 94 pts John Gilman) and the Vaulorent (94 pts WK) won me over. Much happier with these 6 bottles in lieu of those original 3. Not bad!

That's exactly what this reminded me of too, except these replacement bottles are shipping next week! (and I got all of my replacements at PC as I only took in-stock stuff given the going-out-of-business fire-sale energy around PC at that time).

4 x 2014 Bollinger Grande Annee ($130 at local Costco, so easy, just walk to check out and take home, no need to schedule shipping, pick up a box, spend 2-3 weeks looking for a good window of shipping weather, etc).

And who doesn’t like Bollinger tete du cuvee? It’s good enough for 007 afterall.

I was at Total Wine picking up my EP 2020 Lilian Ladouys, and they're having a 15% off sale so I took the opportunity to buy

2 2012 Château Montrose @ $85
1 2019 Château Brane-Cantenac @ $72
1 2019 Monfort-Bellevue @ $15
4 2019 Château Pierre de Montignac @ $20

Now that I have 5 of the 2012 Montrose, I think I'll open one soon.

3 bottles of 2020 Volnay 1er cru Brouillards from Bernard and Thierry Glantenay.

Any Bourgogne lover should try a wine of that estate minimum once.
