2009s selling like hotcakes
Re: 2009s selling like hotcakes
Daniel,
How could Claudius possibly know that?
Not a criticism, just goes along with the theme of this thread that figures are impossible to pin down.
Best regards,
Alex R.

Thank you, Hound. Couldn't have said it better myself! LOL!Houndsong wrote:Alex, has anyone mentioned that you paid too much for your purchases? Let me add this is especially true because 2009 is not selling well and the wines will cost no more on release. Are you new to this thread?
Alex, You are right I have a US-centric view and am comparing to past vintages that escalated in price. I really don't know. I guess my point is that none of us really know. We will know in 3 years when we see what's avaialable at what price.

The local Sngapore retailer I ordered 09s from sold out of many wines in a few hours - those receiving igh RP points (they are points buyers here - even restaurants list RP points). And the first tranche of Lafite was only sold on allocation. They only sold me some wines in high demand as I bought a large number.
Are u referring to Crystalwines or Vinum?
Crystalwines move their EP wines fast because they offer mix lots.
I have been buying from Crystalwines since 1997.
One thing I dislike is that they tend to flog their wine with RP's points.

Re: 2009s selling like hotcakes
I question the selling like hotcakes viewpoint.
UK Merchants have said the Chinese who were supposed to drive demand were going to buy anything and everythinng it hasn't happened.
I had a fairly quiet campaign, except for all the Grand Puy Lacoste I sold.
08 was better for me... but then 90% of my customers are pretty clued up when it comes to wine.
Perhaps I need more advertising, because a lot of my prices were far better than all our competitors.
That includes all the back vintages to 96 of the Giacosa that I have just received.
From talking to other ITB friends, the big boys who control the market are not giving any figures, but at the same time, us little guys keep getting offered slices of the pie at prices that mean that if we cut our throats we can compete within the parameters of this vintage.
The people who are buying (who know about wine are not buying in the quantities necessary) and those who don't (are those who have spent loads of money are those who have been sold on the hype machine, which was in full flow well before the vintage. Even people thought they could buy it it would be delivered they could drink some and then sell the rest!! FAT CHANCE. The number of mind numbing conversations with regards delivery, and IB status have done my head in.
To cut a long story... there will always be conflicting information, and no one will ever know the truth, because that is the way the system works.
All we know is that the negoc have sold loads to the UK who thought the Chinese would come beating down their doors (and that hasn't happened).
And to my other point... either I sort out my website soon, or become a Piemonte specialist and set up www.piemontewineenthusiasts.com :p
And can the sun stop shining and ripening the grapes? I want 2010 to get the same initial revues and be similar to 2004 and 1994! Its my wedding year, and I can't afford another 'Greatest since the Wheel was Invented' Vintage!
P.S I have't read any of this thread, except the title. (ducks for cover).

PJ's just rolled back the prices of some more mid-tier 2009s.

Daniel,
There is a world outside America, and a world outside England.
And Decanter Magazine is only the shadow of what it once was.

Hi Mark (Claudius2),
I am near the Serangoon Garden, not far from the Australian International school.
I bought quite a fair bit from Crystal over the years especially for en primeur as they allow mixed cases.
Cheers,
Roland
