2005 Langoa Barton Anyone?
Did anyone try 05 Langoa? What are your thoughts on this? I saw this at our local store with a price tag of around 55...Too much?

Viewed from here, that's a no-brainer.
Tremendous value for money.

Looks like a pretty good deal to me. The lowest retail I can find is $75 at Cellaraiders in CT.
The notes on Celler Tracker look pretty positive also with the exception of Jeff L. who didn't care for it.

Thanks Alex and Gerry. I tried 09 and 10 and liked them, although placed behind its big brother Leoville...Last month I snapped 4 bottles of 2010 at an auction for 40 bucks in all, but did not try 05 before and therefore was not sure what to expect of 05 albeit 05 was one of the 'vintages of century'...

I'll always have a little place in my heart for Langoa Barton. Back around 1998 or so, when I was beginning my life-altering obsession with Bordeaux, I ordered a 1986 Langoa at Clio, the restaurant at the Hotel Eliot in the Back Bay of Boston. It was served in those big sommelier series Riedel glasses with a fancy meal, and was sublime. The next day we went out to that now overpriced wine store out in Brookline, what's its name, I forgot, where I found the '86 on the shelf for about $35 or so, it was sublime at home as well. One of my early Bordeauxs that got me hooked, along with 1986 Lamarque, 1982 Lagrange, 1989 Lynch Bages, and a few others.

Also a fan of Langoa Barton. I attended a retrospective tasting of Leoville and Langoa Barton at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in DC early this year. The event was a blind tasting organized by Panos Kakaviatos and featured wines selected (and provided gratis) by Lilian Barton for the tasting. She was really quite knowledgeable and charming. I found the Langoas quite enjoyable - perhaps a little less stern than the Leovilles. I particularly liked the 1989, 2000 and 2005 Langoa Barton. The 1995, 1999 and 2009 Leoville Barton also showed very well.

We recently had one of our last 1995 Langoa Bartons and it was classic claret in the best sense. Not jammy, not fruity, but so suave and understated. Still had some tannin but drinking very well.
