2005 Screaming Eagle
11/12/2014
This is a wonderful wine because 1) the intensity of liquid blueberry, raspberry and blackberry fruit is astounding 2) there is an intriguing top note of mint 3) the oak is well blended in the background 4) the acids and tannins are perfectly integrated and 5) the texture is like cashmere. But it is not a truly great wine. It lacks vinous soul. It's all over in a few seconds. There's no foreplay. There's no mystery, no hidden nuances that beg you to study it, to immerse yourself in it, to lose yourself in its depth. Is it just too young? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Whew! I was considering backing up the truck. Thanks Stuart.

I've had Screagle a few times and like it. But not as much as I like the '96 D'Issan I drank yesterday while talking with Tim, Jim, and Alex about BWE '15.
