2002 Pol Roger question
2002 Pol Roger question
I'm looking to add some 2002 Pol Roger to the cellar, and am considering the "regular" vintage blend and some of the Blanc de Blancs. I know we have a few Pol Roger fans on board. How would you compare them?
And is there any difference between the 2002 Blanc de Blancs and the 2002 Blanc de Blancs Extra Cuvée de Reserve, or are these the same wine?

The 2002 Blanc de Blanc is a profound wine that you must have. AFAIK there is only one version of the 2002.
I have not tasted the regular 2002 P-R in the past year. I'll drink a couple of bottles during the Xmas holidays.

2002 Pol Roger is great. I've been drinking a bunch of it recently. Haven't had the Blanc de Blanc in 2002.
Re: 2002 Pol Roger question
Thanks guys. I am in for some of each. I think I'm just seeing 2 different listings for the same Blanc de Blancs.

Re: 2002 Pol Roger question
I am not an expert in champagne, even less so Pol Roger, Sir Winston's favourite tipple allegedly.
I was lucky enough to partake in a bottle of the Cuvée Winston Churchill 2002 on Thursday, which was a nice intro to our annual thanksgiving lunch in West London, when a bunch of us pay tribute to the USA by drinking mainly American wines.
The exceptions on Thursday were a Canadian Icewine we had for dessert and the Pol Winston 2002. It is a full-bodied and powerful champagne, rich in pinot noir. It was more accessible and less impressive than I expected, but I suspect it is early days yet. Right now I prefer the Philipponnat Clos De Goisses 2002.
I had the regular 2002 Pol last year for my 50th birthday, and it was all I could wish for in a glass of champagne.

Re: 2002 Pol Roger question
I always prefer the Blanc de Blanc (the 1990 was the best). But even more so the Rose when available.
Re: 2002 Pol Roger question
Ian, yes, Clos des Goisses is another long-lived wine which has been a favorite of mine in many past vintages. I may have to snag a few of those as well as some of the 2002 PR regular and WC.
Rob, I've been the lucky recipient of a few glasses of 1990 Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs thanks to your generosity. I am definitiely going to spring for a few. Now you're making me want the Rose as well. When sill it stop!?!?!?

The Rose is my personal favorite when available. Nice spiced strawberry overtones. Very special IMHO.
Re: 2002 Pol Roger question
I scored some 2002 P-R Brut for $59/each on a cyber Monday deal. This thread makes me glad I did.
Apparently it never ends, David.

Re: 2002 Pol Roger question
I've loved the 2002 Pol Roger the two times I had it.
I have about 8 bottles in my cellar.
It's at $69 right now in NH.
