I saw that news about the high speed train. That seems like it will make it much easier to visit.
I've looked at it a few times and the flights (for a transatlantic traveler) looked messy.
For me, it would be something like Sacramento > Washington DC > Lisbon > Bordeaux
San Francisco > London then train to Bordeaux seems less painful.

I have to admit, I visited Lyon a few weeks ago after a long absence, and I wasn't as impressed with the food as I expected. Sure there are traditional Lyonnaise dishes. And there is lots of butter. But I find a lot more interesting gastronomie here in Paris.
