I was discussing this in William P's thread, I thought I would create this separate thread.
I am calling for a historic Bordeaux versus California blind tasting at California '17 next spring.
I want to generate international excitement about the event. I want to get the wine press to cover it.
It is still very early, but I am assigning the California BWE contingent to get some of the old regulars to the convention: Cab Fan, Werner/Chris, Maureen, James, etc., etc.
Just throwing this out there now, we'll resume planning for next year's convention in the early fall.
California '17: BD calling for historic CA vs. Bdx event
Re: California '17: BD calling for historic CA vs. Bdx event
And I suggest a BWE visit to the new owning of Mr. Tesseron in Napa? Or the Bordeaux vs California tasting contest done at Mr. Tesseron's new estate? Why not.
What a thrill to taste, blind, Château Pontet Canet vs his half-brother from Napa!

I like it! Let's do the CA v Bdx tasting with Mr. Tesseron!

Good suggestions Nick and Jim. That would be a fun event.
Re: California '17: BD calling for historic CA vs. Bdx event
If Tesseron can't host, we should try for a dinner-tasting at Dominus!
Re: California '17: BD calling for historic CA vs. Bdx event
Just a suggestion, but I would not bifurcate the location of the convention. Though Napa may be more expensive for rooms, staying in Napa cuts down on the commute hassels. I do understand that some might want to have events in the City because it's a great town to visit. Just my .02 cents.

I've noticed some hotels in Fairfield calling themselves 'Napa Valley' in their descriptions.
Possibly a little bit of a stretch in honesty, but I suppose its filling a niche as Napa pricing and traffic reach into Dante's planes.
