Question:
What vintage of Chateau Margaux has the highest measured level of tannin?

Re: Trivia Question Time
This makes me fondly remember the AlexR weekly quiz...
Re: Trivia Question Time
Lol, Is this a guessing game or does someone actually know this for a fact?
I won't cheat but take a wild guess, 1986?

Re: Trivia Question Time
"Tannin" is so 2000s. IPT is the buzz today.
Re: Trivia Question Time
I'll play 2010
Re: Trivia Question Time
I would plump for a poor vintage in which there was little Merlot due to coulure, i.e. a Cabernet Sauvignon year.
If we are talking recent vintages, that would be 2013, so that would be my guess.

Re: Trivia Question Time
Alex...the chateau stated 'ever recorded'
Though, I do not know is when they actually started documenting this statistic.

Re: Trivia Question Time
I like your thought process Alex...and Interestingly it has less Cab than '13 ....btw '16 has more cab than '13
here is a hint...the wine was made in the last 17 years and is on the lower end of the cab percentage in this time period.

2005 or 2010 and since someone said 2010 already I will go with 2005.

Re: Trivia Question Time
Ignoring the process of elimination, I will go with 2011, a year that has elevated tannins but lesser on the alcohol and fruit.
Re: Trivia Question Time
1975?
Re: Trivia Question Time
Stefan,
What didn't you understand within the last 17yrs??!!
Bobby,
I'll go with 2006. When I tasted all of the first growths in 2009 I thought they were all undrinkable because of over powering tannins. That may go across the board with my aversion for young tannic wines but that's my answer.

Re: Trivia Question Time
2010 produced the highest level of tannins at Rausan Ssgla at that point, so I'm guessing it has been since 2010 for Margaux.
I'm going to say 2016.

Re: Trivia Question Time
Folks, we have a winner...it's 2011
Great educated guess Tim...Without any hints, I would have been like Alex and went with the higher Cab vintages.
I recall reading a tasting note on this wine stating the tannins are very fine, giving the thought that this can be consumed early. Apparently not the case here.
Winemaker notes state it is the most concentrated wine they have ever made...I guess I never connected tannin with concentration...to me thats more relates to ripe fruit plus all the other stuff....when I think of high tannin, I think structure.
