Should be a belter of an evening
Re: Coming Event: BWE Denver, Saturday, Nov. 4
If posted a little bit earlier, I could have look for it. I have to go to British Columbia next week so could have done a detour by Denver on Saturday.
Don't worry, I'll make it to Denver one day or another.
Have a good one.

Looking forward to this. We will be bringing a bottle of 1986 Climens.

What Blanquito said. And apologies for the short notice, Nic.
Re: Coming Event: BWE Denver, Saturday, Nov. 4
Thanks Tom and Gail for a lovely evening last night and the delicious meal. Great to see Chris and Marjorie again too. We have a nice satellite BWE office developing here in the Front Range.
We enjoyed the following:
-a NV BdB (I forget the producer)
-the 2015 Guigal Doriane Condrieu
-the 1985 La Mission Haut Brion
-the 1982 Canon
-the 2006 Latour a Pomerol
-the 1986 Climens
Let’s get together again soon.

There was also an outstanding 2015 Condrieu, I think from Guigal (not sure which one). A lot of great wine last night.

Good catch, Chris. We had the 2015 Guigal Doriane Condrieu as well, I’ll add it above.
Re: Coming Event: BWE Denver, Saturday, Nov. 4
Sounds like a great evening. We’ll have to make it out there sometime in the next year.

How come i missed that ? 85 mission, 1982 canon, hum.

Re: Coming Event: BWE Denver, Saturday, Nov. 4
How oaky was that La Doriane?
Re: Coming Event: BWE Denver, Saturday, Nov. 4
I didn't find the Doraine oaky at all really. Beautiful, very floral nose, like fresh lilacs. The palate didn't show an obvious oak influence either.
I thought both the 85 La Mission and the 82 Canon were in excellent form. The 82 Canon took a while to blow off some funk and open up, but after about an hour and half way through the bottle, it really arrived. The La Mission had a sensational, complex nose (I believe "classic tobacco" was bandied about as an apt descriptor) that was better than the Canon's, but once the Canon opened up, I found it a touch deeper on the palate.

Exactly, the Condrieu was nicely aromatic and like Patrick, I didn't notice any intrusive oak. The Canon was a bit grumpy at first but opened up nicely. Always been a fan of 1985 Bordeaux, it's not a classic "great" vintage but they just taste good and the wines have had an exceptionally long drinking window. La Mission is probably my favorite 1985 - every time there is a bottle open, I just want another glass.

Well, bummer. We had been out of the country for about 10 days, and got back last Friday...and were zombies for a couple days after. Just seeing this.
Looks like a great evening, let me know if there others in the future, I'd like to try to make it. We're in Parker, so a bit away but not too far...

That does look like an awesome spectrum of wines.

Danzur, send me a PM with your email address and I can loop you in directly for future events.

Finally getting a breather after a few busy days and BWE appearing to go offline (Comcast loses DNS servers pretty regularly here, rarely happened in MD...)
The Champagne was a recommendation from a wine salesperson at Applejack's - Claude Genet NV Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, very tasty for its price tag.
I thought the Guigal La Doriane was really fragrant, classic viognier, and not showing oak that I could really notice. Both of the 80's red Bordeaux took a few minutes to really get going but both were just textbook examples. In the end I think I preferred the complexity of the '85 La Mish. Finally, the '86 Climens showed why it's a BWE classic - creamy, long, complex, still retaining plenty of sweetness.
Thanks to all for the wine contributions and sharing a great evening with us.
