- 2012 Château Malescot St. Exupéry - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (11/30/2017)
At a steakhouse in Tel Aviv. Dark bright color, classy though subdued (that may be due to my diminishing sense of smell) nose of earth and blackberries. On the palate, good balance of fruit and acidity, all quite seamless with a finish that just keeps going. Lovely (92 pts.)

Very nice. The question that always seems to be asked about this estate: Did you find it more modern or traditional, or somewhere in between?

It's difficult for me to answer this question, I found it fruity, vibrant, pure but also balanced and earthy, no heat of obvious manipulation. I don't know if that's modern or traditional but it's definitely not rustic.JimHow wrote:Very nice. Jim,
I love this estate and definitely modern in a very good way. Ripe lush Margauxberries, nice acidity, length and balance....what's wrong with that. 2000,2001,2003,2004 and 2005 and very good.

I agree. As I've said before, if this is "modern Bordeaux," I'll take it.
I've never been disappointed by this estate.

Count me in as a fan of Malescot. From 1998 to 2004, all excellent to great. The 1995 and 1996 are goid too. I have some 2005 but did not opened a bottle yet.
I don't know if you remember that Jim, but in Napa 02, I bought two bottles of the 1993, in that gigantic warehouse with the blonde, for 15$ each. We had one bottle in the hotel lobby on one afternoon and I remember that it was a very correct 1993.

I don't remember much about that warehouse, Nicola, other than the blonde.

And you still consider yourself a "wine lover"?

I’ve only had the 2005 that I can recall, and I liked it. Agree with the comments that it was not rustic, but still of Margaux. A good demonstration that fruit is not necessarily a flaw.
