I don't like a National Emergency and I really don't like having Trump gain additional powers. Can he meddle with the election?JimHow wrote:Wait til Trump, the Republicans, and Fox News use the coronavirus to mess with the 2020 elections.

Re: President Trump
It's more likely that Biden will win the state of Washington with 95% results in, and is a surprise. If Biden sweeps FL, AZ and IL (with OH postponing its primary), would Bernie step out of the race?

Re: President Trump
I'm kind of sad to see Bernie exit the stage.
I know people get pissed at his Bernie Bros., but he never attacks anyone and stays on his message.
He ended up being a fairly important figure on the American political scene.

Trump now over 50% popularity.
Time to watch more Bojack Horseman.

The only way that poll is accurate is if the people surveyed was a VERY select group.

Lol danzur.
I don't know, historically we rally around our presidents during times of crisis.
I'll tell you one guy who is really rising to the crisis is Andrew Cuomo.

I've been impressed as well by our governor, Larry Hogan, in Maryland. Now to try and get our niece to leave NYC.

Cuomo's been a great example of leadership in a crisis.

A lot of people eat that shit up.
Re: President Trump
I think the elevation is shaping up in a pretty straightforward way:
First, the election will be close given entrenched partisanship and the realities of the electoral college (unless there's an economic disaster).
Second, the economy will tip the outcome, given how close the fundamentals are. If the economy is decent-to-good, Trump's probably a slight favorite even with a net approval rating that's never been positive his entire presidency (a first since polling began). If the economy goes into a mild recession or worse, Trump is the clear underdog.
Despite his negatives, I think Biden is known, moderate, likable, safe. He has much better approval ratings than Hillary did at this stage and given the coronavirus sucking up all of the oxygen, Trump will not have much time to try to tar and feather him.
My brother and I are betting a bottle of First Growth on the outcome: if Trump loses, he's buying, if Trump wins, I am. I am liking my chances right now.

Lol....
I pray you are right, blanquito. I pray you are right...
I think there is a third option... The whole electoral process will be thrown into chaos by corona, and Orange will retain control with a little help from his friends (at SCOTUS).

But if such a thing happens, do Americans take to the streets to protect their democracy or do we roll over?

The BD and I have a bottle of 1989 Lynch Bages riding on whether Trump beats his electoral college total of 304 from 2016.Blanquito wrote:I think the elevation is shaping up in a pretty straightforward way:

So you guys STILL think Trump is going to be defeated in November 2020. Even after this.
Hmmm. interesting.

Nope, I’m currently worried he’ll be re-elected.
Ask me again in a month.

Depends who is running up against him. I say push Cuomo through after the current state of affairs are resolved and people will be pleased with a fresh option...

Re: President Trump
I was too young to remember MLK and the Kennedy brothers, but I remember watching Mario Cuomo's speech live at the 1984 Democratic convention, it is to this day the greatest speech I've ever seen in my lifetime. Can't find the whole thing on YouTube but here are 7 minutes of it:

Re: President Trump
Boy, I'll tell you guys, anybody who does not think this guy Orange Head is a political force is doomed to see a repeat of history.
This may have been his strongest press conference yet. Strong, in command of the details, hopeful, aspirational....
He is now in a groove, the likes of which I haven't seen from him since the 2016 campaign....
He has found his voice.

Trump's ratings increase. Biden is stuck at home and Bernie is quiet about his future. Not good.

Re: President Trump
Is Corona destroying Joe's chances at the presidency?
I say yes, there is a huge amount of time being lost here, every day Orange gets to be on TV looking FDR-like, Joe is coughing away into his hands from his basement.

Re: President Trump
I really wish someone from his team would tell Joe to wear some glasses, honest to god he looks senile, he looks like he's had plastic surgery or something, he looks different from that robust guy who Obama relied on heavily. This could be a massacre, folks.

David Brooks says Biden doesn’t need to do anything now, the election is a long way off.
He’s half right, which is better than usual for him.

Yeah, I can only take so much of David Brooks.
We shall see... I don't think it is overdramatic to state that the future of our republic (and the world?) is at stake.
We have a megalomaniac in there right now.

Re: President Trump
This press conference tonight was a new paradigm.
We've known this for a long time but we have a very mentally sick individual in the oval office.
We have heretofore almost laughed at the thought the 2020 presidential election could be hijacked.
Now, I score it at a 50% chance.
Imagine if the election were next Tuesday?
