- 2004 Aubert Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County (4/2/2011)
pale gold. Nose was initially oak and acid-but too cold temp. With warming and airing smooth vanilla, citrus (lemonaid) and cloves. Taste was-at the red wine bottle serving temperatue-smooth, mouthfilling, lemoncurd and vanilla with lemonaid acid on the end. Still drinking very well, but it really shows that serving temperature makes a BIG difference with this producer. Garnet. Nose was on the sweeter side-blackberry jam, but not as in-your-face as Oz shiraz can be. I guess age mellowed this a little. Taste was a mellower Oz Shiraz fruit bomb but again on the sweet side. The palate was good but a mellow and clipped aftertase. Good, not profound. Deep purple garnet. Mocha and plum on the nose. Taste was a smooth Spanish red with some age-duh!-but the finish was taken from childhood memories of alter wine. Weird. (88 pts.)
