I’ve had several bottles of the 00 Yon Figeac over the past year and they have all been good to very good. At $25 it is a bargain.

Quick question, is young Bordeaux such as 2014 akin to young Napa cab in terms of concentration and structure? I’ve never tasted a Bordeaux at that age.

Pavelot wines need time to shed the concentration and rusticity. Bize drinks younger. Cheers!

1983 Pichon Lalande, 1983 Cos d’Estournel
Had these two wines yesterday and was surprised by the sheer pleasure inside each glass. The PL was joyful with sweet fruit and superb balance and length. The Cos was a bit more serious yet still offering tons of fresh dark fruit and aromatics. What’s your take on current state of the 1983 vintage? ...

Had the 2003 DM yesterday. The nose had a roasted fruit character to it that was off putting. This aroma did not blow away with time. On the palate it had good fruit and decent length. Meh.

If you had to save one Bordeaux from your cellar...
The aftermath of Maria has made us more conscious of the little pleasures in life and more grateful for moments shared with friends and family. Yesterday our wine group met for a tasting based on the theme of which Bordeaux would you save from your cellar if you only had time to pull one bottle. Inc...

Modern Bordeaux? Isn't that the main reason for drinking California Cab? Modernity is not something that I want in my Bordeaux. I'll keep looking for stinky, lower alcohol , balanced wines. Life is too short.

Before you assign the trophy please try any of the 2012 or 2013 Turley Zins. IMHO the Ridge Zins are great but the purity and transparency of the Turley fruit edges them a bit in the pleasure delivery.

We had a 82 Gloria the other night at a beach bonfire that was a complete Bordeaux powerhouse experience. On that night, at that place, it had nothing to envy of any other 82. Great theme...wish I could make it.
