Re: Is Jeff Leve the new He Who Shall Remain Nameless?
yes well after all I published his book
Also respect The Wine Doctor and a number of others. Mind you,I am not the slightest bit interested in buying 2014 or indeed any vintage after 2005

Re: Is Jeff Leve the new He Who Shall Remain Nameless?
I ,like others here no doubt,am lucky to be able to describe both Jeff and Neal as good friends. Both have superb palates, with Jeff far more Bordeaux centric than Neal who now of course covers Burgundy and South Africa,in addition to Bordeaux. The power of WA,gives Neal more influence I guess, but th...

Re: My BWE 2015 WOTY
I have an unusual palate Robert in that I prefer my Bordeaux(and actually Nebbiolo and Rioja too) with many many years bottle age Hence my favourite ever Bordeaux have been from 45,47,59 and 61 with the Latour and Palmer 61 being just about the best, simply because both bottles were amazing---------...

Re: My BWE 2015 WOTY
Amazing that such a relatively humble list of wines should be your greatest drinking experiences, when you have obviously drunk a lot of very fine wine. Maybe, part of the experience was the food and company you drank the wine with ?

Re: Spring weekend in Paris
Nice write up Ian and good to see that you posts notes on Burgundy, not just Bordeaux !! :) The Ponsot CDLR is one of those wines, that just seems to need years and years. I have tried the 90,93 and 95 but none were ready for my palate, and am sitting on two cases of 99 which I think I will need to se...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Picked up my third case of a wine I absolutely love--Pichon Lalande 96 and, also a wine for the future, which I think is attractively priced,LMHB 98

Re: 1999 the Cinderella vintage shows well
well I would like to compare 98 and 99 at an offline but I guess it can never be conclusive. Suspect the LMHB 98 is a lot better now than when you tasted it

Re: 1999 the Cinderella vintage shows well
Thanks for notes Ian-----appears to me from your and other notes, elsewhere ,that the wines were fairly average. Is this fair? Do you really think 99 is a better vintage than 98? Doubt if there is a better wine in 99 than HB 98,for example. I do love the Palmer 99 though and think it is probably the ...

Re: What is your favourite super second?
Opened the first bottle of a case of Mouton 86 a couple of weeks ago,and the guests invited(who included a number of distinguished wine professionals)thought it one of the best bottles of this wine they had tried. It is a wine, just like many other from this vintage, that never seems to be ready, but ...

Re: Has the book been written on Bordeaux?
Interesting Stefan as 78 is also my favourite vintage for drinking now although confess I no longer have many. Still making my way through a case of LMHB,which is one of my very favourite wines. I guess the main reason I do not drink young Bordeaux,is that I have so much mature, and life is too short...

Re: Has the book been written on Bordeaux?
Have genuinely not drunk a decent Bordeaux at ten years that I did not think would improve with at least another ten!!! But as you know,my palate is rather different to many ,including my wife !! She loves lots of fruit but I loathe lots of fruit. Her wine of choice is young ripe sweet Bordeaux or A...

Re: Has the book been written on Bordeaux?
Everyone keeps telling me that the quality of wine making and presumably the wine has improved considerably in the last twenty years, but are modern vintages and wine so much better than great vintages of the past? I accept that the average Bordeaux wine is probably superior, although I confess I do n...

Re: What is your favourite super second?
Pichon Lalande for me too. I am assuming that La Mission is a First Growth, which of course, in everything but name, it is. Pichon Lalande has been remarkably consistent across many vintages and is always my go too wine, other than Firsts. In fact, looking at my cellar,I see that this Chateau rates num...

Re: The very nice 2001 Tertre Roteboeuf
I too enjoy this wine and 2001 generally. An under-rated vintage that offers reasonable value for money, and is drinking well now
