Re: 2016 Larrivet Haut Brion
Had this with our Christmas day meal. First time we've had anything from this chateau. Decanted for an hour. I agree, it was disappointing. Color was lighter than expected. The tannins were silky but not much to the nose and the flavor was basic red fruit with a hint of baking spice. Not what I was ...

I thought it was Château Ratouin that became Clos du Beau-Père and that Vieux Château Bourgneuf was one of three properties that were merged into Château Fayat.

Re: Encyclopedia of Pomerol Wines (Japanese website)
I don't think it is recent and updated. F.i. Vieux Chateau Bourgneuf no longer exists; it is now Clos de Beau Pere. Agreed, as I wrote 'It does not look like it has been updated for about 10 years." and "Some may no longer exist..." I still thought it interesting for the listing, inf...

Encyclopedia of Pomerol Wines (Japanese website)
I don't see that this has been posted before. But thought some would enjoy perusing the pictures of labels and the info. This site is in Japanese(with some French) and some links are broken or require a password to get to. It does not look like it has been updated for about 10 years. My Japanese rea...

Second grand cru classé would be a mistake in French if it ever did appear on a label for the following reason. "Second" is only used when there are just two of something. For more than that, "deuxièime" is used. https://www.lalanguefrancaise.com/orthographe/deuxieme-ou-second-d...

Re: 2019 Chateau Cantemerle.... Best Cantemerle ever.
Oh happy day! Good news. I got a shipment of wine to Kansas; 12 bottles of 2019 Cantemerle. There is a side story though. As I said above, being unsure about shipping wine into Kansas as I had gotten mixed info on whether that was legal or not, I placed a small low-dollar test order, as some here on...

JCNorthway, Thanks, that's just what the wife and I decided to do last night - will be placing a small order later this morning to see if there are any issues with the state. If there are no problems with shipping wine into Kansas, I will probably go broke ordering wines from Saratoga.

Re: 2019 Chateau Cantemerle.... Best Cantemerle ever.
Jim, I saw Saratoga Wine Exchange under the retailer links and have been drooling over the prices and the selection (not just for Bordeau) for the past few weeks. My problem is that they say they will ship to Kansas, yet I get conflicting information from online and those I know here in Kansas on wh...

Jim, I know it was in no way your intent, but you have made me depressed. It's not that I recently bought 3 bottles of the 2016 Cantemerle and am now told the 2019 is the best ever; no it is that you can get Cantemerle for $28. Twenty-eight dollars! I hate living in Kansas sometimes - this is one of...

Congratulations! From my experience not many on-line forums last that long. Looking forward to next year's silver anniversary. Anyone heard of Vignobles (Jean-Claude) Fabris?
I have never heard of any of their wines. Yesterday as part of a larger buy I got one each of the following: 2015 La Rose du Temple(Pomerol), 2019 Dargan (Moulis), and 2019 Champs des Sables (Montagne St. Emilion). They are all made by Jean-Claude Fabris. There is not much info on him(them) or on th...

Re: Bordeaux 2020 Southwold Tasting at FarrVintners
Large tastings are great, but true wine appreciation begins and ends with a singular bottle....especially when paired with the right cuisine. Agreed. Outside of tastings, it is rare for us to have wine without food; a glass of champagne as part of a toast or some port, Eiswein, BA or TBA by the fir...

2014 Ch. Garraud, Lalande de Pomerol with dinner
2014 Ch. Garraud, Lalande de Pomerol (84% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 14.5% ABV) Lovely deep garnet color, medium bodied, dominant flavor of plum and red cherries with a hint of chocolate, dry fine velvety tannins. The alcohol level concerned me but the wine was well balanced. We had this Saturday n...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
Thanks Jim,
Credit goes to BWE for bringing Lilian Ladouys to my attention. The first three though, have been long-time favorites. When I say Labégorce, that includes the consolidated Labégorce-Zédé which I preferred over Labégorce back in the day.

Introduction from a new member
Just recently found your site. Have been lurking for over a week. My first bottle of Bordeaux was a '78 Prieure Lichine which I bought on my 18th birthday (the legal age in Arizona in those days in the early 1980s) My parents allowed me to have a 1/2 glass of wine starting when I was age 16 with Sun...
