Re: 1997 Mouton in surprise knockout of 1998 Mouton.

I threw in the 97 Mouton at the end of packing wines for the trip, thinking that it would serve as a luncheon claret on Saturday, but we drank both Moutons at dinner. I was surprised that it complemented the 98 Mouton rather than being overshadowed by it.

Re: The tragedy of the corked 2002 Domaine des Chezeaux Chambertin Grand Cru....

You are fortunate not to be TCA sensitive, Jim. This bottle was badly corked. Even you not being very sensitive, the flavors would be very muted for you in comparison to those from an uninfected bottle. Your reaction to the corked bottle after it has been around a week shows that this is one f***ing...

Re: A historic royal BWE visit to the Great State of Maine

It was a great week for Lucie and me. Traveling with Jacques & Jill. Visiting BD Jim for the first time and hanging out there. Seeing the view from Cadillac Mountain--a view unlike any others we have seen. Eating Maine lobstah. Drinking fine wines. But mostly it is about the friends we have met ...

Re: A historic royal BWE visit to the Great State of Maine

The 1er Cru Carillon and Niellon white Burgundies were great with the excellent lobster rolls. I think the Burgs were Referts and Clos St Jean, maybe both from 2017. After the trip to the coast and the filling lunch, none of us wanted a big dinner. We stopped at a supermarket on the way back to Chez...

Re: A historic royal BWE visit to the Great State of Maine

Great day yesterday. For brunch Jacques made scrambled eggs with mushrooms to go along with smoked salmon and cream cheese. We drank some Krug #171 while the prep was going on before having our first bad experience: a terribly corked bottle of 2002 Chezeaux Chambertin. The next PN, 2012 St Innocent ...

It was a great night at Jim's pad. The weather was perfect for having lobster on the deck. Our first BWE visit to Maine has a great start. Wines last night were Krug #168, 2008 La Grande Dame, 2017 Francois Carrillon Puligny 1er Les Perrieres, 2012 Jadot Corton Charlemagne, 2018 Niellon Les Vergers,...

Hey, according to my spreadsheet tally, if I stopped buy wine today and drink (and sell) on average as much wine as I have over the last decade, I have only 8 years of wine left!

No problem.
1. Buy more wine.
2. Do not sell any more wine.

I find it simpler to put funds into a MM account that yields at least 5%, especially since we will probably need a lot of cash at some unknown time in the fall. But the yield I get in MM is a bit less than what I could get in T-bills.
