Re: Sixteen more bottles of 2016 Chateau Lafite have been secured….

Great wine for celebrating your 80th birthday! One lot I lost in my last auction outing contained a bottle of '89 Lynch Bages. I hope it found a good home.

I frequently use the plus sign when assigning a score as I am grading the wine in its current state while acknowledging that there is room for future improvement.

Wine enough for after you turn 90, but what about when you are in your seventies and eighties?

Lafite has always held a mystique for me

For me, too. No other first growth has it. It reminds me of Salieri versus Mozart: Salieri crafts a perfect composition, then a Mozart piece blows it away.

The food part of the menu looks great; glad it was great. I did not know that Lambray made a Folatieres. Did the Som decant it? $691 tax free is a very good price for 2016 Lafite, Jim. I doubt that you could get that price at auction.

About the same, Jim, as the 1996, and hard to get at auctions for under $900 all in. Probably considerably less in the UK at auctions; right, Ian? Occasionally at USA auctions you can get "bargains" on Lafite. My most recent purchase was the equivalent of $410/ bottle all in for the 1983 L...

I drink a lot of La Tour Blanche, partly because I like and partly because it is the favorite Sauternes of a friend. I appreciate the 2003, but I am not surprised that it did not go well with foie gras. IMO, it is a wine to drink by itself or with a salty cheese or salted popcorn.

It should be blanquitoed, I think. How is the Lafon Rochet? I am recovering from the Covid I contrac...

That's $75 under the lowest retail price on WineSearcherPro. I'm guessing that it will be drinkable at age 20 and leaving its jailbait stage at age 30.

For only $300 more, you can buy the fabulous 1998 Ausone, which is already excellent and will probably improve for 20 years.
