Re: Introduction from a new member
Welcome aboard, esl. 1978 is one of my favorite vintages because of the wonderful aromatics that some wines have. I am particularly fond of Margauxberries.

1. Probably cocktails and maybe a white Burgundy, as we will be on the beach in Florida. 2. Oregon PN. Tonight with leftovers it is a 2019 D. Drouhin Dundee Hills. I no longer own any Bdx cellar saver wine except for 2010 Haut Bergey, having drunk the others all up. The problem is that Bdx cellar sa...

Um, Izak, you yourself wrote about 2005:

Don't be so hard on the old man. Mixing up names is normal for people who are nearing 80. My wife Mary does that all the time.

That is a nice cross section of quality Bordeaux that usually mature earlier than many other fine clarets. My 2005 D’Armailhac, stored at 62-64F since release, has drunk well with steak for some time. So it should not be long until yours opens.

Re: So what should I buy
In my experience, Jim, there are few Burgundies that require 30+ years to reach their peak even if some can live much longer. For example, virtually everything from 1996, 1999, and 2002 are mature. I expect all 2005s to be mature at age 30, and most should by age 25. A reason to hold on to Burgundie...

ONE bottle, David? Would you like a loan? The bad news is that last year I spent more on wine than Lucie spent on her (pre-owned) BMW. The good news is that this year Lucie does not need (or want) another car! And I am content to drive my hand-me-down from Lucie, a 1998 Toyota Camry, which might out...

Ha-ha, Jim. Michael P does not like even to be in the same room as an open bottle of red Burgundy. The village 2005 Burgundies are in a drinkable phase now. Last night Lucie & enjoyed Vincent Girardin's Vosne-Romanee VV with chicken and mushrooms over rice. I am right now consuming the leftovers...

There are many places in NY that have Pol Roger for less than $50. The basic brut was not so good for a while. We switched from PR to Charles Heidsieck as our house Champagne. PR got better, but for our taste it still is not as good as CH.

Re: So what should I buy
1995 and 1996 are less risky than anything earlier. In the last three years I have bought quite a few older bottles for our Oregon house, and the disappointment rate has been quite high for wines from 1990 and before. That may be why prices are about the same as the those for young wines. You cannot...

CV, was "Pauillac" a slip of the fingers, or is 2020 Cos Labory atypical for its appellation? That would be very unusual for CL.

Jim, I see that you are keeping busy when you are not in court.
When I got home with the white Burgundy and Champagne and Lucie saw the Lanson, she asked how many bottles they had. I responded, "eight". She said, "why didn't you buy them all?"

Jon, what I bought today were at or near the lowest price in the USA. Many of the Winery Direct wines from our TW are familiar Bordeaux. I was not interested in them because I do not want any more red wine in Texas. I am not familiar with Belland, but the two I bought reviewed well. 2002 Lanson Nobl...

I am interested in hearing about the 2020 Nameless Wine. Older vintages, bought at auctions, are almost always crappy, but young ones bought from reputable stores can be very good.

Another epic Stuart tasting! The first time I drank 1970 Lafite, sometime in the 1990s, I was similarly surprised by how good it was even if it was much different then from now. Light for 1970, but a wonderful floral nose with the mahogany accent you mention, and a pleasure to drink. For my taste 19...

It is always fun to have a taste off between the great 1982 Latour and 1982 Mouton, while 1990 Lafite shows that Pauillac is not all about power.
