Re: Wine store to Boston

I second the plug for Gordon’s. JF, their inventory is online so you can browse and see if anything there is worth the side trip for you. If you’re looking for some large Bordeaux formats, TotalWine has a nice eye candy selection at a number of their stores (Natick specifically), again inventory is ...

Re: Recent ish wines - Part Deux.

Nick - I do enjoy Pape Clement quite a bit. Many years ago (early 2000s?), I picked up a case of the '88, which we drank over the ensuing 10 years, sadly long gone now. Wish I had more restraint back then!! Unfortunately, as David mentions, the price of Angelus has spiraled, but I think it's worthy ...

Very nice notes Ian. I was quite pleasantly surprised at the collective quality of the wines at age 50 remains so high. I was certainly expecting a few of them to have crashed and burned. Serious shame about the Margaux! :x

David, this is so painfully true lol. Resist the urge as much as you can to grab those bottles! The great tasting note is just a reminder how much I blew it when I didn’t jump on the bandwagon with Jim and Gerry when they were visiting New Hampshire on all the 2014’s.🤦‍♂️

Sadly, I do not own a lot of 2010 Pauillacs so my view there is pretty limited. I suspect you're spot on with your assessment (might throw Clerc into the mix) but others with deeper cellars in 2010 will have to opine.

I’d say a little more structured Stefan than typical Margaux. They really are a great hot streak since 2015, If you haven’t had this wine, you should give it a go!

Labegorce may be knocking on the door of Sociando asking for the BWE QPR championship belt! 🤔

The little voice in my head saying 'no, thats my favorite... no that's my favorite...' This is a bit like asking which of your children do you like the least!
I have a similar view Ian, very close groupings lead by St Julien and Paulliac, but with St-Estephe right up there!

Re: Poll: Was Robert Parker a net positive or a net negative for Bordeaux?

For me, this was a bit of a tossup. I agree with Gerry - his early days in the industry provided a lot of additional transparency to consumers about wine making, the quality of wine and moved the needle on information availability from a very few reviewers/negotiants too much broader general access....

2015 Haut Brisson - Nicely surprised how well this is doing given it's humble price. Medium to full-bodied, surprisingly concentrated, on the nose cassis and black/blue fruits. On the entry hint of cedar, earthy with diced herbs. Tannins are quite present, and offering nice structure.
