Re: Bordeaux 1986 dinner in London

So is Piccolino’s in London a decent place to dine there that is not "over the top?" I note that it has multiple locations, so not a one off.

Re: Bordeaux 1986 dinner in London

Thansks to both of you for the notes. I've only tasted a few of those wines over the years. Fortunately for me, those that I've tasted were mostly your higher rated wines. Very interesting perspective with enough data points to draw some conclusions about the vintage overall.

I don't personally see any noticeable discounting. But that is based only on my observation as a customer and not on any actual data.

Re: Trip to the Mâconnais and Beaujolais

Thanks for the very detailed and informative notes, Alex. Visiting the areas of Macon and Cote Chalonnaise is on my list for one day. I have resorted to buying most of my French Pinot Noirs and Chadonnays from these regions in recent years. There are some very nice wines being produced for still rea...

Alex, those of us who still wish to buy wines from France are feeling the pinch from tariffs. Wines I have purchased annually for several years are up over 10% and as much as 20% since our "fearless leader" took over last year. And I have to admit that I have purchased fewer bottles fom Fr...

I opened my last bottle of this wine for Easter dinner this year. My impression was more favorable than yours. I managed to buy several bottles of this wine at inflated prices after all the accolades it received. Tonight I opened a bottle for the first time since 2020. This was a very stubborn bottle. My normal screwpull cork remover managed to remove the top half of the cork (ugh). So I pulled out my long s...

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Deutz. I've enjoyed it in the past though I have never actually bought it for myself. And sorry about the Pouilly Fruisse. Those early 1980's Pichons (specifically 1981-1983) were lovely wines. It's amazing that, though they did not show a lot of tannins early on, they have managed to age gracefully for over 40 years.

By the way, how many of us have backup Durands?

Thanks for the notes on your tasting, Brian. It is interesting how well those older Napa wines have held up. I suspect that recent vintages from there will not fare as well at age 30 or more. Nice to hear your impressions of the 89 Bordeaux wines and the 1970 Latour.

Two 1995 Bordeaux wines for Easter

We had my brother-in-law and his wife for Easter dinner. I chose two bottles to accompany a leg of lamb main course. 1995 Angelus was the first bottle I hve opened of this wine - out of my collection of 4. I also opened a 1995 Grand Puy Lacoste. I've opened several of these over the years, and every...
