2015 Brane Cantenac has been uncorked and other ramblings....

Post by JimHow »

I've had some Brane Cantenacs from the early 2000s and I found them, including the 2005, to be kind of flabby. But I think there was a change in the winemaking team, no?, around 2009 or so? Anyway, let's see how this puppy is doing....

Hmmm I don't know if this is my style of Margaux, it just doesn't seem to have much of a tannic backbone. Maybe it will show better with grilled meat.

It is kind of Malescot St. Expery-like.

As for the 2015 Brane Cantenac, I saw nothing profound here. It was a continuation of the lack of structure from the decade before. The aromatics are nice, but nothing profound. I see no improvement here from the flabby 2005, it was like a flabby Malescot. Eh. It is a 90 point wine, not worth its price tag.

Popped and poured, JC, it may be a style thing for me. I think I like my Margaux more in the Giscours style, with a bit more structure.

Well I guess it’s just a surprising data point for the previous BWE WotY winner.

That does not sound very exciting. And I've got 6 of them waiting for the right time . . .
