Re: So what have you bought lately?

Our basement and elevator construction are finished and I’ve had time to reorganize and reload the wine cabinets. To my delight, I have a little room if I keep a case or two of ready-to-drink stuff in boxes in the basement. So I went ahead and bought the following for the cabinets:

4 x 2019 Grange des Pères
6 x 2016 Jamet Côte Rôtie
2 x 2022 Patricia Green Cellars Block 1B Balcombe Vineyard Pint Noir
2 x 2022 Patricia Green Cellars Coury Clone Freedom Hill Vineyard Pint Noir
2 x 2022 Patricia Green Cellars Weber Vineyard Pint Noir

That was a tough job with a bad back. I know from painful experience.

I've had my eye on some 2022 Patricia Green PNs. They are just consistently good at relatively reasonable prices for the quality.

Stefan, fortunately my back has been pretty well behaved the last couple of months.

Jon, PGC has too many different bottlings for me to keep track of. I end up buying whatever they are discounting on Berserker Day. Haven’t been disappointed yet.

I've also thought about buying some recent vintages of Leoville Barton, Jim, as I have enough mature Bordeaux to last until these younger wines are approachable. However, I still need more Italian wines in Oregon that are at least pubescent. It is hard to find 2006 and 2007s, but I do come across 2020s occasionally. The other day I picked up

4 2010 Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino.

I lack whites and basic Champagne in Texas, so I also bought a couple of 2022 Sancerre, three Vaillons (Chablisienne & Sequinot), 2 NV Bollinger and 1 NV Marniquet Brut. For poker nights I grabbed 2 2011 Rioja Gran Reserva Vina Clambrero and 6 2017 Daugay St Emilion because I didn't have any cheap reds in Texas, and a 2016 Marrone Barolo because it was on a super sale.

I bought 12 bottles of 2022 Mongeard Mugneret Fixin and tried one, it was absolutely gorgeous. I bought about a hundred bottles of 2022 Chablis, including 2022 Dauvissat La Forest, I want to buy more 2022 red Burgundy, they seem to be slow hitting the shelves.

I like Mongeard Mugneret, but I thought tthat they had changed the style, going from traditional to modern. Have they?

***

I assumed that the Mongeard Mugneret Fixin you bought might be affordable, but the lowest price I see in the USA for it is almost $100. $100 for a F***IN* FIXIN!?!? I can buy any recent release St Innocent PN for less.

Yeah, it's the same old story. I bought the stellar 2005 for like $30. This 2022 I bought from Saratoga for $90 per bottle, and, yes, that's a "good" price.

I mean, I see the 2022 Jadot Couchereaux at $105. OMG, really? I think we got those for like $20 back in 2005, no?

I just checked, it's now up to $94.50 at Saratoga....

I'm telling you, though, it's stunning.

Guys
I relented and bought a case of the 2020 Chateau Canon.
I tried hard not to, but could not resist. Can add it to two cases of the 2019.
Big difference in price however.

I have also bought cases of some less famous St Estephes being 2018 and 2019 Tronquoy and 2019 Ormes de Pez. Tronquoy was previously called Tronquoy Lalande, the Pichon Comtesse apparently but some pressure on the estate to change name.

Yes, Jim, the Jadot Couchereaux was $20-25 when we bought.

There are so many good Oregon PN that I hardly ever buy overpriced Burgundy. Full disclosure is that I have a lot of mature Burgundy in Texas so that I can scratch the Burgundy itch any time we are here. I have bought some Burgundy for Oregon, mostly at auctions when I get lucky with a low bid.

One of the dangers of being retired is that you have time on Friday to attend auctions.

I see you have what CabFan once referred to as "the Gwynneth Paltro of Bordeaux wines," aka the 1983 Pichon Lalande.
Speaking of CabFan, there is a rumor that he and Julia may be present at Maine '25, Stefan, as Nicolas pointed out to me, we may have a near reunion of the Chicago '01 "Night of the Zins," twenty-five years later!

IIRC, you swore off Zins after that notorious night, Jim.

It was the '83 Lady Lalande as well as the '82 Nameless Wine that induced me to participate in the auction. I hope whoever won the Nameless Wine got a case of the Bad Ones. Bottles of '82 LL are highly variable, even when compared to other '82s.

When I look all what Stefan buys, I don’t know why I did chemistry. Or why some of you did law, or health specialist, or economics.

We should have all done mathematics…

Pinching pennies and working full time on a teacher's salary until age 78 allowed me to retire with enough to drink pretty well in my old age, Nik.
