Champagne, Chablis, Margaux, Barolo

Post by Nicklasss »

A bit late writing lately, lack of time…

Last night:
Pascal Doquet Champs Libres Extra-Brut: excellent, a good mix of yellow fruits, with a bready crust and very slight oxidation. Good bubbles, very good and dry, as it's only dosed at 3 g/L. Very pleasant, well-made, and doesn't try too hard. Perfect as an aperitif.

2 Chablis: 2023 Grosset and 2024 Piuze Terroirs de Chablis: Grosset: very beautiful, fruit, flowers, light vegetal notes, good minerality from the soil, and tension. Long finish. Piuze: a bit richer, lemon, more shell than mineral, also long but less complex, less flavorful, needs time.

3 young reds: Brunello di Montalcino Carpineto: corked, a shame… 2016 Ségla: very good, more approachable than Rauzan Segla, Merlot fruit, blackberries, good ripeness, purple grapes. Also noble wood, light vanilla, good power but smooth. Medium length. Alessandria Barolo Commune Verduno 2021, powerful, youthful, complex, long. Cherries, morello cherries, medicinal herbs (eucalyptus and mint leaf), light balsamic oak. Plum, floral, and well-balanced grippy tannins on the finish. Excellent. I also have Gramolere and Mongliviero in my cellar. I'm happy.
