Been sick as a dog since coming back from Asia, feeling a little better today for the uncorking of a nice 2014 St. Julien.
A little shy on the nose, I don't know whether the bottle is off or whether it's my cold.
The 2014 Branaire Ducru has been uncorked and other ramblings....

Opening up now with a little coaxing, sour cherries, cedar, yum. Shaping up as a Jean-Nicolas Maltais kind of wine....

Hope it is good. Tonight we are catching 2011 Mugnier Clos de la Marachale at a good time. Since the world is likely to end before I croak naturally, I think I should buy a lot more Mugnier.

Oh this 2014 Branaire is evolving into a real beauty. This is the type of wine that everyone else would give 89-90 points but for me it is 94-95. Reserved, stoic, but a pretty floral bouquet continuing to evolve and a classic St. Julien cedar and cassis on the palate, reserved, true to its terroir, but what do you expect from this estate in this vintage? This is a Jean-Nicolas Maltais / Dennis Bates (Setab) kind of effort....

Very nice! As a fan of Saint Julien, of course i like Branaire Ducru. One of the 1994 i drank the most bottles is Branaire.
I don’t have any 2014, but i have some 2018 (needs lot of time) and 2019 (did not open one yet).
I’m starting to think i miss you Jim, as every damn Bordeaux make you think of me!

Sounds good. A Chateau I’ve always enjoyed. I’m still drinking the 95s and 01s and have yet to take a case of 04 out of store!
I also have solitary bottles of 59, 75, 78 and 82, auction purchases, in the cellar. A 1970 was very nice a couple of years back. I need to look at back filling on some recent vintages like this, 15 and 16.
