Happy Birthday, Lucie!
Happy Birthday, Lucie!
Tonight we'll take stefanJr and family out to Bar Purlieu, our favorite restaurant in Eugene, to celebrate Lucie's 82nd birthday. We'll drink a Champagne from their menu (probably a Vilmart) and have a 2000 Leoville Las Cases as our second wine. The first, of course, will be a La Lagune, a 1982 that smells like it will be one of the excellent bottles from this vintage. That will be a nice change as the last few '82 La Lagune we opened (from the same case, purchased at an auction) were not so good.

Happy Birthday Lucie! Hope you have a great year!
Re: Happy Birthday, Lucy!
Thanks, all, from Lucie & stefan.
We had a nice celebration. Bar Purlieu performed well, and the '82 La Lagune was indeed outstanding; as good as the bottle that Jacques brought to a Stuart bash that included all the '82 first growths and where LL outperformed Lafite and Margaux and competed with Haut Brion for third place. The 2000 Leoville Las Cases was up to snuff but was well behind the 1982 La Lagune in everyone's judgment. Of course, the LLC is still young, but it is no longer precocious jail bait.

Many happy returns Lucie!
I had pegged her age at least ten years younger…

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. Our dinner with our son's family was so nice and the La Laguna was better than I remembered the previous bottle of '82 had been. Second celebration will be in a couple of weeks when we are in Berkeley to celebrate with our daughter and family at Chez Panisse. Life is good.

Yeah, I hear that a lot. Sometimes when we are out a stranger asks her if she is taking her father to dinner.

Happy Birthday Lucie! Wishing you a blessed year (and some great wine with Stefan!)
Re: Happy Birthday, Lucie!
Stefan: Yup, WAY younger.
Lucie: Happy belated Bday and sounds like you celebrated well. 82s for 82. Nice ring to it. Can't wait to see you again soon (Vegas? Oregon? DC?....)

We are waiting for you and Nalan to come to Oregon, Michael. We've been back a week getting settled and taking care of issues, mostly now resolved. Our SubZero was cooling only to 59, but a tech came out quickly to make a temporary fix and will do a permanent one on Wednesday. I unpacked 175 bottles from auctions in LA and somehow managed to find storage for all. We need help to drink a lot soon to make room for multiple cases I have sitting at seven other places.
