2020 Fontenil

Popped and poured, but allowed the glass to breathe an hour before consumption. Deep purple in color with aromas of dark cherries, lavender and spicey nutmeg. Fleshy and silky with plush tannins. Not the last word in complexity and not a wine to contemplate, just a joy to drink. Medium long finish. I bought a case. Excellent QPR.

2016 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge

Restaurant purchase for Regan’s 50th birthday. This is a winner, hands down. Decanted for 45 minutes while we enjoyed a martini. Served with prime steak.

Deep purple-hued color with a bouquet of tobacco, damp earth, gravel, and dark cherries. Blueberries poke through on laser beam, long finish. This is a well-balanced wine, with a gentle grip, and just the right amount of acidity that leads to a precise and long finish. Very high marks for this polished wine, although we both were suprised how open this wine presented. Glad to have a 6-pack in the cellar. Should improve with tertiary notes developing in a few years. No rush, but a joy to drink now.

Nice notes RPCV.

Count me as a huge fan of the 2016 Domaine de Chevalier rouge. I understand well your description and agree. What a nice wine, drinking with lot of pleasure already.

A winner. The 2015 is excellent too. The 2018 need so much time… to maybe become better.

Had a 1979 Pichon Lalande the other night. Yum. Just a beautifully appropriate 1979. A Comte Flaneur kind of wine....

Good, BWE QPR wines you drank!

Jim, we drank 1985 Pichon Lalande last night and 1983 Pichon Lalande tonight. Both are still going strong. The '85 has a heavenly bouquet, while the '83 is perfectly balanced. Last night we also drank the powerful 2005 Pichon Baron. While the PB would win in a competition against the '85 Comtesse, I preferred the PL because of its captivating nose.

Mmm nice stuff Stefan.
I had a 2015 Giscours that was beautiful, really coming into its own. Still young but really smoothing out.
Some of the young Giscours I've had in the past couple years have been closed but this 2015 was lovely, I'm glad to have 13 more bottles.

Nice to hear that! I’m doing a Giscours vertical soon with my wine group and that bottle is one of 18. Oldest back to ‘78.

Really looking forward to the report, BP, I'd love to hear a report of your least favorite to most favorite, 18th to 1st.
Giscours often thrills me, but sometimes the vintages from this century seem closed in ways that they should not be.
