Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
Lots of choices here, more Rhone than Spain. I think I'll pull an '89 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle to go with Danny's '96. And then for a second bottle, hmmm... a Châteauneuf? Côte Rôtie? Sine Qua Non?
Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
Sorry David but I changed my mind. I could certainly change back to the 96 La Chapelle however I thought a 99 Pingus might be something that some may not have had before.

Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
Great choice Danny! I've never had Pingus (had Flor de but never the big dog) and would love to try it.
I could bring a Beaucastel Vieilles Vignes or a SQN Rhone-ish white for a starter if desired.
Then maybe the '89 La Chapelle or a Guigal Cote Rotie or a SQN Syrah or Grenache for the main dinner.
And then maybe a SQN Rhone-ish sticky for dessert?
What do y'all think?

Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
All of those sound good to me, especially the Pingus and Beaucastel.
I will bring the 78, 79, and 81 Beaucastel.

Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
David or anyone
Any Guigal La La's in your cellar or is that what you are referring to? Vega Sicilia?
Starting to sound good.

Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
Ken, that sounds like a fantastic Beaucastel lineup!
OK, how about:
White
2007 Beaucastel VV Roussanne (used to love these with age but had a couple pre-moxed bottles, so I'm now drinking them young)
Red
1994 Guigal La Mouline? I brought one of these to the Friday night BWE dinner last year. It was WOTN for a few people but not in the running for the group.
OR
1994 Guigal La Turque?
OR
1989 Beaucastel? To add on to Ken's mini-vertical. I've been lucky with my '89s - no leakers so far.
Stickie
2008 Sine Qua Non Jinete Bajo Roussanne Vin de Paille. It's a 375 ml - probably enough for 8 of us at the end of the day.

Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
Thanks. One correction, that should have been 1983 Beaucastel instead of 1981. Drank up all of the 1981s. It is my last bottle of 79 and it will be interesting to see if it is still intact. Haven't had one in a number of years. The 1978's were always as hard as nails, and only became drinkable a few years ago.

Re: Rhone/Spanish Confirmations
Please note that the reservation for the Spanish/Rhone dinner is at 8 pm, not 7 pm.
